THE PURPOSE OF THE CORPORATION IS TO EDUCATE AND EMPOWER MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY IN EAST HARLEM AND ENCOURAGE THEM TO DEVELOP LEADERSHIP SKILLS AND STRATEGIES TO FIGHT FOR JUSTICE IN THEIR COMMUNITY, INCLUDING WITH RESPECT TO THE RIGHTS OF TENANTS AND IMMIGRANTS. IN FURTHERANCE OF THIS CHARITABLE PURPOSE, THE CORPORATION SHALL: A. ORGANIZE AND MOBILIZE COMMUNITY MEMBERS IN EAST HARLEM TO FIGHT FOR THEIR RIGHTS, PARTICULARLY AS TENANTS AND AS IMMIGRANTS; B. PROVIDE SUPPORT AND EMERGENCY RESOURCES TO COMMUNITY MEMBERS IMPACTED BY THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC; C. PROVIDE SUPPORT ON TENANT OR IMMIGRANT ISSUES AND CARRY-OUT CONSULTATIONS, WORKSHOPS & OTHER EVENTS.THE CORPORATION SHALL NOT OPERATE FOR THE PURPOSE OF CARRYING ON A TRADE OR BUSINESS FOR PROFIT.THE CORPORATION IS ORGANIZED, AND SHALL BE OPERATED, EXCLUSIVELY FOR CHARITABLE, CULTURAL, LITERARY AND EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES IN THE UNITED STATES WITHIN THE MEANING OF 501(C)(3) OF THE INTERNAL REVENUE CODE,AS IT MAY BE AMENDED.

MOVEMENT FOR JUSTICE IN EL BARRIO IS A GRASSROOTS ORGANIZATION THAT FIGHTS TO PRESERVE AFFORDABLE HOUSING BY ORGANIZING AGAINST THE DISPLACEMENT OF LOW-INCOME AND IMMIGRANT TENANTS IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD, EAST HARLEM. THE ORGANIZATION ALSO EDUCATES IMMIGRANT COMMUNITY MEMBERS REGARDING THEIR RIGHTS VIA COMMUNITY OUTREACH.


MOVEMENT FOR JUSTICE IN EL BARRIO PROVIDES SUPPORT AND EMERGENCY RESOURCES TO IMMIGRANT FAMILIES AND INDIVIDUALS IMPACTED BY THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, DUE TO THE CRISIS, INCLUDING THOSE DIAGNOSED WITH THE VIRUS
