EACH FEBRUARY NOMINATIONS ARE SELECTED IN UP TO 32 CATEGORIES OF THEATRICAL EXCELLENCE AND AN AWARDS PROGRAM IS HELD AT THE JACOBS CENTER FOR NEIGHBORHOOD INNOVATION IN SAN DIEGO. NEARLY 600 PEOPLE ATTEND THE OPEN-TO-ALL EVENT. THE AWARDS ARE COVETED BY THE LOCAL ARTISTS BECAUSE IT HELPS THEM GET OTHER WORK AND THEATER COMPANIES USE THE AWARDS AS A WAY TO ESTABLISH A PATTERN OF EXCELLENCE WHEN APPLYING FOR GRANTS. THIS YEAR WE AWARDED A $500 SCHOLARSHIP TO THE MOST OUTSTANDING YOUNG ARTIST OF THE YEAR AND WE AWARDED AN $800 GRANT TO THE WINNER OF THE MOST OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT BY A SMALL THEATER (UNDER 99 SEATS). A SPONSOR ALSO PRESENTED A MARKETING PRIZE TO THE THEATRICAL PRODUCER OF THE OUTSTANDING NEW PLAY. IN LIGHT OF THE 2020 COVID-19 PANDEMIC, NO FUNDRAISING WAS HELD AND NO EVENT CEREMONY WAS HELD IN FEBRUARY 2021. WE PLAN TO RESUME OPERATIONS IN 2022.
