IN 2021, AIA ARIZONA HELD ITS TWO MAJOR EVENTS IN PERSON WITH PROOF-OF-VACCINATION-FOR-COVID-19 REQUIREMENT FOR THE FIRST TIME IN TWO YEARS. THE AIA ARIZONA STATE CONFERENCE WAS HELD ON OCTOBER 15 AT WAREHOUSE 215 IN DOWNTOWN PHOENIX, AND THE AIA ARIZONA AWARDS GALA WAS HELD ON NOVEMBER 12 AT THE PHOENIX ART MUSEUM. BOTH EVENTS ATTRACTED NEARLY 300 PEOPLE IN PERSON IN SPITE OF THE ONGOING PANDEMIC. THIS WAS A YEAR OF LEADERSHIP TRANSITION, WITH TINA LITTERAL RETIRING AS EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT AFTER MORE THAN 30 YEARS IN THE PRIMARY STAFF LEADERSHIP ROLE. JOHN CZARNECKI WAS SELECTED THROUGH AN EXTENSIVE EXECUTIVE SEARCH PROCESS. HE SUCCEEDED TINA LITTERAL AND BEGAN AS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR ON JUNE 1, 2021. A NUMBER OF EDUCATIONAL SESSIONS WERE HELD VIA ZOOM, ATTRACTING AUDIENCES THAT WERE STATEWIDE. THIS INCLUDED ARCHITECT REGISTRATION EXAM ARE TEST PREP SESSIONS FOR THOSE STUDYING TO BECOME REGISTERED ARCHITECTS. AIA ARIZONA WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONSISTENT MEMBERSHIP LEVELS THROUGH THE PANDEMIC, WITH THE TOTAL NUMBER OF STATEWIDE MEMBERS AT 1,100 IN 2021.
