COTTONWOOD GULCH CREATES OUTDOOR LEARNING ADVENTURES FOR YOUTH FROM ALL BACKGROUNDS THAT FOSTER PERSONAL GROWTH, STRENGTHEN COMMUNITY, AND INSPIRE STEWARDSHIP OF THE NATURAL WORLD.

IN 2021, CGE RAN FULL-PROGRAMS, ALBEIT AT A SLIGHTLY REDUCED CAPACITY DUE TO THE ONGOING PANDEMIC. CGE SERVED 133 SUMMERTIME TREKKERS WITH OVER 3,000 DAYS IN THE FIELD AND OVER 1000 TREKKERS ACROSS THE CALENDAR YEAR. CGE PARTNERED WITH 17 SCHOOLS IN LEADING TRIPS RANGING FROM A SINGLE DAY TO EXTENDED OVERNIGHT EXPEDITIONS. CGE ENTERED THEIR FOURTH YEAR OF THE STUDENTS IN WILDERNESS INITIATIVE IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE WILDERNESS SOCIETY. THE PROGRAM CONSISTED OF 10 CLASSROOM SESSIONS AND 10 DAYS OF FIELD-BASED LEARNING. CGE CONTINUED THE YOUTH CONSERVATION CORPS PARTNERSHIP WITH A CREW OF SIX STUDENTS DOING RESTORATION WORK ON PUBLIC LANDS FOR SIX WEEKS IN THE FALL OF 2021. CGE ALSO INTRODUCED A NEW GAP YEAR PROGRAM FOR STUDENTS WHO HAD COMPLETED HIGH SCHOOL AND NOT YET ENTERED COLLEGE. THE SEMESTER-LONG PROGRAM GAVE THEM AN EXTENDED OPPORTUNITY TO LIVE IN THE SOUTHWEST AND FOCUS ON A PERSONALLY CHOSEN AREA OF INTEREST. OTHER CONTINUING PARTNERSHIPS INCLUDED: THE FOREST STEWARDS GUILD, ANCESTRAL LANDS CONSERVATION CORPS, CHIZH FOR CHEII, NOLS WILDERNESS MEDICINE, SHE JUMPS, AND BERNALILLO COUNTY/BACHECHI OPEN SPACE. FINALLY, CGE COMPLETED AN EXTENSIVE STRATEGIC PLAN THAT FOCUSED ON THE MISSION, VISION, AND VALUES OF THE ORGANIZATION AND WILL PROVIDE DIRECTION AND GUIDANCE INTO THE FUTURE.
