THE CHILD AND ADULT CARE FOOD PROGRAM (CACFP) IS A FOOD NUTRITION PROGRAM SUPPLIED BY THE USDA, SUBSIDIZING FOOD SERVICE TO CHILDREN AND ELDERLY OR MENTALLY OR PHYSICALLY IMPAIRED ADULTS IN DAYCARE SETTINGS. IN GEORGIA, IT IS ADMINISTERED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF EARLY CARE AND LEARNING. FOR CHILDREN, IT OPERATES WITH THE SCHOOL LUNCH PROGRAM PROVIDING MEALS AND SNACKS TO DAY CARE CENTERS, OUTSIDE-SCHOOL-HOURS, AND AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMS. THROUGH THIS PROGRAM, PARTICIPANTS GAIN ACCESS TO NUTRITIOUS FOODS THAT CONTRIBUTE TO WELLNESS, HEALTHY GROWTH, AND DEVELOPMENT OF YOUNG CHILDREN.
