TO RAISE CONFIDENCE IN THE POULTRY COMMUNITY THROUGH LEADERSHIP, SUPPORT, AND ADVOCACY.

THE ASSOCIATION HAS A COOPERATIVE AGREEMENT WITH USDA ANIMAL AND PLANT HEALTH INSPECTION SERVICE, VETERINARY SERVICES WHERE THE ASSOCIATION CONDUCTS AVIAN INFLUENZA SURVEILLANCE IN EGG-TYPE CHICKENS, TURKEYS, AND BROILER CHICKENS WITHIN THE STATE OF IOWA. THE OBJECTIVES OF THE IOWA AVIAN INFLUENZA SURVEILLANCE PROGRAM ARE TO QUICKLY DIAGNOSE, CONTROL, AND PREVENT THE SPREAD OF ALL H5 AND H7 NOTIFIABLE AVIAN INFLUENZA SUBTYPES WHICH MIGHT OCCUR IN IOWA.


THE ASSOCIATION SPONSORS AN ANNUAL FALL FESTIVAL AND ANNUAL MEETING PROGRAM TO PRESENT EDUCATIONAL MATERIAL TO MEMBERS AND TO RECOGNIZE MEMBER ACHIEVEMENTS. THE 49TH FALL FESTIVAL AND ANNUAL MEETING WAS HELD ON SEPTEMBER 17TH THROUGH THE 19TH IN WEST DES MOINES, IOWA.


THE ASSOCIATION SERVES AS THE OFFICIAL STATE AGENCY FOR THE NATIONAL POULTRY IMPROVEMENT PLAN (NPIP). THE NPIP IS A COOPERATIVE FEDERAL-STATE-INDUSTRY PROGRAM DEVELOPED FOR CONTROLLING CERTAIN POULTRY DISEASES. THE IOWA POULTRY ASSOCIATION OVERSEES IOWA'S INVOLVEMENT IN THE NPIP, REGULATES THE IMPORTATION AND EXPORTATION OF BIRDS, ISSUES PERMITS FOR BREEDER FLOCKS, ALONG WITH ADMINISTERING LAWS AND RULES REGARDING POULTRY IN IOWA.
