THE GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE CHELSEA EDUCATION FOUNDATION IS TO SUPPORT CHELSEA PUBLIC SCHOOLS. ACTIVITIES INCLUDE AFTERSCHOOL AND ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS, ADULT LITERACY PROGRAMS, COLLEGE READINESS AND SAVINGS PROGRAMS AND TEACHER RECOGNITION.

CHELSEA REACH PROGRAM - THIS IS AN AFTERSCHOOL AND SUMMER PROGRAM SERVING HIGH SCHOOL AND MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS ATTENDING CHELSEA PUBLIC SCHOOLS (CPS). THE OVERALL AIM OF THE REACH PROGRAM IS TO IMPROVE ACADEMIC SUCCESS AND TO SUPPORT COLLEGE AND CAREER READINESS. CPS SERVES AS THE LEAD AGENCY FOR THE PROGRAM AND CHELSEA EDUCATION FOUNDATION SERVES AS THE FISCAL AGENT. IN 2022, THE REACH PROGRAM SERVED 40 STUDENTS AND ITS MAJOR FUNDERS WERE THE MASSACHUSETTS DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH ($18,500) AND EASTERN SALT COMPANY ($5,000). THIS PROGRAM ALSO BENEFITS FROM DIRECT SUPPORT FROM CPS ($58,000) AS WELL AS GRANTS AWARDED DIRECTLY TO CPS FOR REACH ($168,154).


CHELSEA INVERSANT COLLEGE SAVINGS PROGRAM - CHELSEA EDUCATION FOUNDATION SERVES AS THE FISCAL AGENT FOR CHELSEA INVERSANT, A SAVINGS PROGRAM THAT, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE NONPROFIT INVERSANT, INC., CHALLENGES FAMILIES OF CHELSEA PUBLIC SCHOOLS' STUDENTS TO SAVE UP TO $1500 FOR COLLEGE EXPENSES THAT ARE MATCHED, DOLLAR FOR DOLLAR, FROM DONATIONS MADE TO CHELSEA EDUCATION FOUNDATION FOR CHELSEA INVERSANT. OVER 83 FAMILIES WERE ENROLLED IN CHELSEA INVERSANT IN DECEMBER 2022. CHELSEA INVERSANT PROMOTES COLLEGE READINESS AND FAMILY ENGAGEMENT BY ENCOURAGING SAVINGS AND ENGAGING PARENTS THROUGH FINANCIAL AID WORKSHOPS, OUTREACH, AND OTHER ACTIVITIES. CHELSEA EDUCATION FOUNDATION PROVIDED 20 SCHOLARSHIPS TOTALING $12,729.71 IN 2022. IN THE SUMMER OF 2022, INVERSANT ANNOUNCED THAT IT WOULD NO LONGER BE OFFERING ITS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM AND WAS MERGED INTO ITS SISTER ORGANIZATION, LA VIDA SCHOLARS. STUDENTS AT THE HIGH SCHOOL WILL NOW BE DIRECTED TO APPLY TO THE LA VIDA SCHOLARS PROGRAM. THE 83 STUDENTS THAT REMAIN IN THE INVERSANT PROGRAM WILL CONTINUE WITH CEF INVOLVEMENT AND BE SUPPORTED UNDER THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THE INVERSANT PROGRAM. STUDENTS ENROLLED IN THE INVERSANT PROGRAM, BUT WHO HAVE NOT YET GRADUATED WILL BE PROVIDED SUPPORT FROM LA VIDA AND CHELSEA PUBLIC SCHOOLS.


INTERGENERATIONAL LITERACY PROGRAM (ILP) - CHELSEA EDUCATION FOUNDATION SERVES AS THE FISCAL AGENT FOR THE ILP, A CHELSEA PUBLIC SCHOOLS INSTRUCTIONAL PROGRAM THAT SERVES ADULT LEARNERS OF PRIMARILY IMMIGRANT FAMILIES SEEKING ENGLISH ACQUISITION SKILLS AND A HIGH SCHOOL CREDENTIAL. ILP PROVIDES LITERACY INSTRUCTION WITH THE GOALS OF STRENGTHENING ENGLISH LANGUAGE AND LITERACY SKILLS, ENCOURAGING HOME LITERACY, AND PROMOTING THE LITERACY AND ACADEMIC SUCCESS OF THE CHILDREN OF ADULT LEARNERS. THE ILP RUNS DAY AND EVENING INSTRUCTIONAL SESSIONS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. IN 2022, THE ILP SERVED 385 ADULTS AND 77CHILDREN, ITS MAJOR FUNDERS WERE THE ANNA B. STEARNS FOUNDATION ($45,000) AND THE A.C. RATSHESKY FOUNDATION ($15.000). THE PROGRAM ALSO RECEIVES DIRECT SUPPORT FROM CHELSEA PUBLIC SCHOOLS AS WELL AS AN ADULT BASIC EDUCATION GRANT FROM THE COMMONWEALTH OF MASSACHUSETTS AWARDED TO CHELSEA PUBLIC SCHOOLS.
