AS THE CHARITABLE ARM OF BATC-HOUSING FIRST MINNESOTA, THE FOUNDATION PARTNERS WITH LOCAL HOMELESS SERVICE PROVIDERS AND TAPS THE TALENTS AND RESOURCES OF THE ASSOCIATION'S MEMBER BUILDERS, REMODELERS, SUPPLIERS, AND VOLUNTEERS TO BUILD NEW OR RENOVATE EXISTING TRANSITIONAL HOUSING FACILITIES FOR THOSE EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS.

COMMUNITY BUILD PROJECTS-HOUSING FOR HEROES TWO COMMUNITY BUILD PROJECTS WITH BUILD PARTNER LENNAR WERE COMPLETED FOR THE MINNESOTA ASSISTANCE COUNCIL FOR VETERANS (MACV) TO SERVE AS SUPPORTIVE HOUSING FOR VETERANS AND THEIR FAMILIES EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS. THESE TWO NEW CONSTRUCTION FOUR-BEDROOM HOMES LOCATED IN NORTH MINNEAPOLIS WILL PROVIDE TRANSITIONAL HOUSING FOR APPROXIMATELY 20 VETERANS ON AN ANNUAL BASIS. ONE PROJECT INCLUDES AN ACCESSORY DWELLING UNIT TO PROVIDE ADDED HOUSING FLEXIBILITY AND MAXIMIZE USE OF THE LOT. MACV OWNS BOTH PROJECTS AND PROVIDES VETERANS WITH CASE MANAGEMENT, EMPLOYMENT AND LEGAL SERVICES TO HELP THEM REGAIN CONFIDENCE AND SELF-SUFFICIENCY. THESE PROJECTS PROVIDED APPROXIMATELY 5,000 SQUARE FEET OF SUPPORTIVE HOUSING IN THE COMMUNITY. WITH PARTICIPATION OF BUILD AND TRADE PARTNERS AND FUNDING FROM THE FOUNDATION $520K OF CONSTRUCTION COST WAS DONATED PROVIDING PROJECTS VALUED AT $880K FOR A FRACTION OF THE COST FOR THE SERVICE PROVIDER.
