WINGSPAN HAS A STRONG COMMITMENT TO PROVIDING SERVICE TO INDIVIDUALS WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES (DD) THAT OFFERS A STABLE, SAFE AND SECURE HOME WITH ONGOING OPPORTUNITIES FOR PERSONAL GROWTH, SELF-DIRECTION, FELLOWSHIP AND RECREATION. WE OFFER A VARIETY OF ACTIVITIES, SUCH AS: BOWLING AND SOFTBALL LEAGUES, GLEE CLUB, DRUM CIRCLE, MOSAIC CLASS, MUSIC & MOTION CLASS, LADIES DAY IN AND MORE. OUR CLIENTS CHOOSE TO PARTICIPATE IN THESE ACTIVITIES AS THEIR INTEREST DIRECTS. WE ALSO OFFER WINGSPAN CELEBRATIONS OF ALL MAJOR HOLIDAYS, AN ANNUAL SUMMER PICNIC/CARNIVAL, A TALENT SHOW AND A FORMAL MAGNOLIA BALL DANCE HELD AT THE MILLENNIUM HOTEL. SINCE 2001, WE HAVE OFFERED RAINBOW SUPPORT GROUP, A PEER SUPPORT GROUP FOR MEMBERS OF THE LGBTQ COMMUNITY WITH DD.EACH HOME, FORMING A COMMUNITY AND FRIENDSHIPS OF THEIR OWN, ALSO PLANS A WIDE VARIETY OF ACTIVITIES BASED ON THE INTERESTS OF THE PEOPLE LIVING IN THAT HOME.OUR RESIDENTIAL SERVICE IS 24 HOUR CARE, SERVING UP TO 120 PEOPLE IN TWENTY NINE HOMES THROUGHOUT THE METRO AREA. TWENTY-EIGHT OF THOSE HOMES PROVIDE RESIDENTIAL CARE AND ONE PROVIDES CRISIS RESPITE. WE ADAPT AND CHANGE OUR SERVICES AS PEOPLE AGE AND DEVELOP, WITH THE GOAL OF PROVIDING SERVICE TO THEM UNTIL THE END OF THEIR LIFE. IF AN INDIVIDUAL WISHES TO LEARN LIFE SKILLS THAT MAY RESULT IN MOVING TO A MORE INDEPENDENT LIVING ENVIRONMENT, WE SUPPORT AND ASSIST THEM IN THAT PROCESS. THROUGH OUR SPECIALIZED COMMUNITY SUPPORT UNIT (SCS), WHICH INCLUDES OUR HARMONY HOUSE, WE OFFER CRISIS RESPITE SERVICES TO INDIVIDUALS WITH A DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITY WHO HAVE HAD A SIGNIFICANT MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS TO TRANSITION SAFELY, WITH NEW TOOLS AND SKILLS, BACK INTO THEIR COMMUNITY.WINGSPAN ALSO SERVES PEOPLE WITH DD WHO LIVE IN THEIR OWN APARTMENT OR WITH FAMILY. WE PROVIDE OPPORTUNITIES FOR RECREATION AND FELLOWSHIP ALONG WITH TEACHING LIFE SKILLS FOR MAINTAINING THEIR INDEPENDENCE AS WELL AS FINDING A JOB IN THEIR COMMUNITY.THE 2021-2022 FISCAL YEAR WAS STILL IMPACTED BY THE LINGERING COVID-19 PANDEMIC. WINGSPAN CONTINUED PROVIDING ENRICHMENT TO CLIENTS WHILE KEEPING THEM SAFE AND WELL, AND WE WILL CONTINUE TO UTILIZE TECHNOLOGY TO DO SO AS NEEDED.WE HAVE UTILIZED ZOOM SOCIALIZING AND CONNECTION TO OTHERS OFFERING "COFFEE TALK", A WEEKLY SING A LONG, AND GAMES SUCH AS "WOULD YOU RATHER AND "NAME THAT TUNE". EACH INDIVIDUAL HOME HAS HAD TO BE MORE CREATIVE, IN ISOLATION, AT KEEPING OUR CLIENTS ENGAGED, LEARNING AND EMOTIONALLY HEALTHY AS THEY HAVE HAD MONTHS OF NOT ATTENDING DAY PROGRAMS, SEEING FAMILY AND FRIENDS OR BEING OUT IN THEIR COMMUNITY. WE HAVE ALSO PROVIDED ART MATERIALS TO CLIENTS SO THEY COULD PARTICIPATE IN WINGSPAN ART CONTESTS, INCLUDING PUMPKIN PAINTING AND GINGERBREAD HOUSE MAKING.
