MUSEUM: THE ITASCA COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY (ICHS) HAS BEEN WORKING SINCE 1948 TO BRING ITASCA COUNTY HISTORY TO THE CITIZENS OF THIS REGION. WE OFFER HISTORICAL RESOURCES, SOME OF WHICH ARE AVAILABLE THRU THE KARJALA RESEARCH, GENEALOGY AND HISTORY CENTER. WE HOST VISITORS FROM MANY OTHER STATES AS WELL AS FOREIGN COUNTRIES. THIS NOT ONLY PROVIDES SIGNIFICANT REVENUE BUT ALSO HELPS IMPROVE THE AWARENESS OF THE COUNTY HISTORY. THE SOCIETY ALSO MANAGES A MUSEUM AND MUSEUM STORE WHICH IS OPEN YEAR ROUND, WHICH IN THE PAST CALENDER YEAR, SERVED APPROXIMATELY 18,000 VISITORS. IN ADDITION, THE SOCIETY MAINTAINS THE KARJALA RESEARCH, GENEALOGY AND HISTORY CENTERS, HOUSING APPROXIMATELY 41,000 DOCUMENTS AND 120,000 PHOTOGRAPHS.FURTHER, APPROXIMATELY 54,000 ARTIFACTS ARE STORED IN A CLIMATE-CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT. THE MUSEUM ARCHIVE AND STORAGE FACILITY ARE ESSENTIAL TO THE SOCIETY'S MISSION TO CONNECT PEOPLE TO THE HISTORY OF ITASCA COUNTY.
MUSEUM STORE: IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE MUSEUM, THE SOCIETY OPERATES A MUSEUM STORE WHERE VISITORS AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC CAN PURCHASE HISTORICAL AND LOCAL AUTHOR BOOKS, REPLICAS AND EDUCATIONAL ITEMS, ALL OF WHICH HAVE A RELEVANCE TO THE HISTORY OF ITASCA COUNTY. SUCH ITEMS SUPPORT THE MISSION OF THE SOCIETY BY EDUCATING THE PUBLIC.
PUBLIC INFORMATION: THE SOCIETY PRODUCES A MONTHLY AND QUARTERLY NEWSLETTER WHICH IS DISTRIBUTED TO THE MEMBERSHIP AND GENERAL PUBLIC. THESE NEWSLETTERS AND FLIERS CONTAIN ANNOUNCEMENTS OF EVENTS AS WELL AS ARTICLES RELEVANT TO THE HISTORY OF ITASCA COUNTY. THE SOCIETY HAS A MEMBERSHIP IN EXCESS OF 400 INDIVIDUALS AND ORGANIZATIONS.
