TO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE TO INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES WHO HAVE SUFFERED AN INJURY OR LOSS FROM UNNATURAL OR NATURAL DISASTERS OR OCCURRENCES THAT INVOLVED A FIRE FIGHTER PERFORMING HIS OR HER DUTY; TO PROMOTE FIRE PREVENTION THROUGH EDUCATIONAL ENDEAVORS IN THE COMMUNITY; TO SUPPORT SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH AND STUDY INVOLVING FIGHTING FIRES, PREVENTING FIRES, AND/OR IMPROVING THE ABILITY OF FIRE FIGHTERS TO PERFORM THEIR DUTIES; TO PROVIDE EMERGENCY MEDICAL GRANTS: IN THE EVENT A FIREFIGHTER OR MEMBERS OF A FIREFIGHTERS FAMILY BECOMES ILL, DISABLED OR INCAPACITATED THE FUND SHALL UPON WRITTEN REQUEST FROM A MEMBER OF LOCAL 400, THE FIREFIGHTER OR FIREFIGHTERS IMMEDIATE FAMILY AND WITH SUPPORTING MEDICAL DOCUMENTATION, AFFECT A FINANCIAL GRANT TO ASSIST THE AFFECTED FIRE SERVICE MEMBER; TO PROVIDE WITH ASSISTANCE TO IMMEDIATE FAMILY UPON THE DEATH OF A MEMBER OR FORMER MEMBER OF LOCAL 400 THAT LEFT IN GOOD STANDING, THE FUND SHALL IMMEDIATELY ISSUE A CHECK TO THE FAMILY OF THE MEMBER TO ASSIST WITH BURIAL EXPENSES.
