PRESERVE AND PROTECT FIELD AND FOREST AND NATURAL HABITAT ALONG THE LOWER ST. CROIX RIVER.

LAND MANAGEMENT: THE VOLUNTEER WORK DAYS WERE SPENT AT BUFFALO SKULL, ENGELWOOD, AND TEWKSBURY PROPERTIES WHERE WE CONCETRATED ON BRUSH CLEARING AND SEED COLLECTING WITH THE GOAL OF IMPROVING PRAIRIE AND OAK SAVANNA HABITAT. THE MAIN SPECIES TARGETED FOR REMOVAL WERE INVASIVES SUCH AS BUCKTHORN AND HONEYSUCKLE, WHILE SOME NATIVE SPECIES SUCH AS RED OAK AND RED CEDAR WERE REMOVED FROM PRAIRIE AREAS. GARLIC MUSTARD CONTINUED TO BE PULLED WHEREVER FOUND. THE ECO CLUB FROM OSCEOLA HIGH SCHOOL HELPED WITH SEED COLLECTION. WE PLANTED OVER 40 POUNDS OF SEEDS FROM NATIVE SPECIES OF PLANTS CLEARED OF BRUSH AND INVASIVES. SEVERAL SPECIES WERE SEEDED INTO THE DEGRADED GRASSLAND AT BUFFALO SKULL. WE IMPLEMENTED A PRESCRIBED FIRE POLICY AND ARE CURRENTLY ENGAGED IN BUILDING AN ORGANIZED PROGRAM FOR PLANNING AND IMPLEMENTING FIRE AS A HABITAT RESTORATION TOOL.
PUBLIC RELATIONS: WE HAD 113 VOLUNTEERS CONTRIBUTE 950 WORK HOURS THIS YEAR. THE LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL ECO CLUB PARTICIPATED IN SOME OF THE WORK DAYS. PROVIDED FREE PUBLIC ACCESS ON OVER 1500 ACRES FOR HIKING, HUNTING, CROSS COUNTRY SKIING, AND OTHER OUTDOOR BASED ACTIVITIES. MAINTAINED CROSS COUNTRY SKI TRAILS. MAILED OVER 700 NEWLETTERS. KEPT FACEBOOK PAGE UP TO DATE.
LAND PROTECTION: WE COMPLETED A 38 ACRE CONSERVATION EASEMENT ON LAND ADJACENT TO ST. CROIX NATIONAL SCENIC RIVERAY LAND. DOCUMENTS WERE SIGNED EARLY 2022. CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE LOCAL AREA FOR CONSERVATION EASEMENTS AND PURCHASE OF VULNERABLE LAND.
