YAHARA PRIDE FARMS IS A FARMER-LED NOT-FOR-PROFIT ORGANIZATION THAT IS DEDICATED TO IMPROVING WATER AND SOIL QUALITY IN THE YAHARA RIVER WATERSHED THROUGH EIGHT DIFFERENT AGRICULTURAL CONSERVATION PRACTICES. YAHARA PRIDE FARMS IS A 501(C)3 ORGANIZATION.

PRACTICES INCLUDE FOUR DIFFERENT METHODS OF COVER CROP APPLICATIONS, THREE DIFFERENT PROCESSES OF HANDLING MANURE, TWO FORMS OF LIMITING TILLAGE, AND INTRODUCING GRASS PLANTING WHICH IMPROVES SOIL STABILITY AND REDUCE NUTRIENT RUN-OFF. SIXTY FARMS ARE EITHER YAHARA PRIDE CERTIFIED OR OR IN THE PROCESS OF BEING CERTIFIED. THE YAHARA PRIDE FARMS CERTIFICATION PROCESS MEASURES FIELD, LAND AND STREAM CONSERVATION,CROP AND SOIL FERTILITY AND ASSESSES FACILITIES TO EVALUATE ENVIRONMENTAL RISKS AND BENEFICIAL PRACTICES. FARMS BECOME CERTIFIED AFTER EARNING AT LEAST EIGHTY PERCENT OF THE AVAILABLE POINTS. THE PROGRAM RECOGNIZES GOOD PRACTICES ALREADY IN PLACE AND IDENTIFIES AREAS WHERE IMPROVEMENTS TO THE LAND ARE VIABLE.
