AS ONE OF THE BASIC NEEDS, HOUSING IS IMPORTANT TO THE POOR. THE ORGANIZATION HELPS WITH HOUSING IN MANY WAYS. THE MOST FREQUENT REQUESTS ARE FOR RENT ASSISTANCE IN AN EFFORT TO STAVE OFF AN EVICTION. DURING THE YEAR THE ORGANIZATION HELPED 89 CLIENTS BY PAYING LANDLORDS A TOTAL OF 28,145 IN RENT PAYMENTS. IT ALSO HELPED CLIENTS WHO HAD NO PERMANENT HOUSING BY PROVIDING TEMPORARY HOUSING FOR 29 CLIENTS BY PAYING 7,849 TO MOTEL OPERATORS ALLOWING THESE CLIENTS MORE TIME TO FIND MORE STABLE HOUSING. SIX CLIENTS WERE ASSISTED WITH HOUSING RELATED MATTERS TOTAL 1,244 FOR MORTGAGE PAYMENT ASSISTANCE, PROVIDING A SECURITY DEPOSIT, PURCHASING APPLIANCES, PURCHASING AN AIR CONDITIONER, ASSISTANCE WITH MOVING EXPENSES AND TRASH REMOVAL.
INDIRECT SUPPORT CHECKS WERE WRITTEN TO THE ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY OF MILWAUKEE, WI TOTALING 37,100 TO ASSIST CLIENTS IN NEEDS. OF THE AMOUNT 15,400 WAS DESIGNATED TO NEEDY CONFERENCES WHO IN TURN ASSIST THEIR CLIENTS WITH RENT, ENERGY ASSISTANCE, FOOD, UTILITIES, TRANSPORTATION, ETC. SVDP MILWAUKEE OPERATES TWO MEAL PROGRAMS AND THE ORGANIZATION DONATED 15,700 TO HELP IN THIS ENDEAVOR. THE ORGANIZATION ALSO DONATED 1,000 TO A SVDP MILWAUKEE MEAL PROGRAM. THE ORGANIZATION DONATED 1,500 TO THE NATIONAL SVDP DISASTER RELIEF FUND AND 3,400 TO ANOTHER SVDP PROGRAM THAT HELPS IN LOS TOROS.
