PROVIDE FOR THE PROMOTION AND STUDY OF THE ARTS AND TECHNOLOGIES PERTAINING TO THE PRINTED BOOK AND RELATED TEXTUAL OBJECTS SUCH AS ARTISTS' BOOKS, BROADSIDES, EPHEMERA, MANUSCRIPTS, MAPS AND PAMPHLETS.

CAXTON CLUB ORGANIZED AND PRODUCED 28 CULTURAL PRESENTATIONS AND COLLABORATED WITH OTHER ORGANIZATIONS ON SIX ADDITIONAL PROGRAMS. OF THESE 34 PROGRAMS, 12 WERE DELIVERED TO LIVE AUDIENCES CONSISTING OF MEMBERS AND NON-MEMBERS. OTHERS, WHICH WERE PRODUCED FOR ALL VIRTUAL AUDIENCES AND DELIVERED VIA ZOOM, FEATURED REAL TIME Q@A TO ENCOURAGE ENGAGEMENT AND SCHOLARSHIP. THE SPEAKERS SELECTED WERE AUTHORS, RESEARCHERS, OR AUTHORITIES ON LITERARY OR BOOK-RELATED SUBJECTS AND REPRESENTED BOTH DIVERSITY OF TOPIC AND GEOGRAPHIC REGION. ALL PROGRAMS, VIRTUAL AND LIVE, WERE FREE TO BOTH MEMBERS AND NON-MEMBERS. ATTENDEES AT LIVE PRESENTATIONS PAID ONLY FOR FOOD SERVED (BILLED AT COST). THE AUDIENCE REGISTRATION TOTALED OVER 3,500, INCLUDING 1,100 MEMBERS AND OVER 2,400 NON-MEMBERS.
BOOK ARTS/BOOK SCHOLARSHIP OUTREACH (EXPENSES 2,594): THE CLUB UNDERTOOK SEVERAL INITIATIVES AIMED TO FOSTER BOOK ARTS, BOOK SCHOLARSHIP, AND BOOK COLLECTING. CAXTON CLUB SPONSORED THE HONEY & WAX ANNUAL BOOK COLLECTING PRIZE, AND GIFTED BOOKS AND COLLECTIBLE MATERIALS TO PROGRAMS AT OTHER NON-PROFIT ENTITIES. CAXTON CLUB MAINTAINS A MEMBERSHIP IN THE FELLOWSHIP OF AMERCAN BIBLIOPHILIC SOCIETIES. COMMUNICATIONS AND WEB SITE ADMINISTRATION (EXPENSES 10,755): THE ORGANIZATION'S WEB SITE IS THE VIRTUAL HOME OF THE CAXTON CLUB AND SERVES AS ITS COMMUNICATIONS BASE WITH MEMBERS AND THE PUBLIC. IT IS INTEGRATED WITH ALL ASPECTS OF MEMBERSHIP, PROGRAMS AND EVENTS, SECURE REVENUE COLLECTION, AND RELATED RECORD KEEPING. MEMBERS CAN UPDATE THEIR PROFILES AND CONTACT INFORMATION, FIND AND COMMUNICATE WITH OTHER MEMBERS VIA THE DIRECTORY, REGISTER FOR EVENTS AND VIEW PAST EVENTS, ACCESS CURRENT AND PAST ISSUES OF THE CAXTONIAN, AND PARTICIPATE IN ON-LINE EVENTS. THE PUBLIC HAS ACCESS TO EVENT REGISTRATION, MEMEBERSHIP APPLICATION, AND THE CAXTONIAN; ANYONE CAN SUBIT REQUESTS FOR INFORMATION OR ASSISTANCE VIA THE WEB SITE ALSO. NONMEMBERS WHO REGISTER FOR CAXTON CLUB PROGRAMS ARE ADDED TO THE EVENT NOTIFICATION EMAIL DISTRIBUTION. MEMBERSHIP: BENEFITS, RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION, VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION (REVENUE 1,365; EXPENSES 8,837): MEMBERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO EXPLORE THE CLUB'S 125-PLUS YEAR HISTORY AND CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE MODERN HISTORY OF THE BOOK. NEW MEMBERS ARE GIVEN A COPY OF CAXTON CLUB'S PUBLICATION, CAXTON CLUB: A HISTORY, AND SEVERAL ITEMS IMPRINTED WITH THE CLUB'S LOGO ALONG WITH A HISTORY OF ITS DEVELOPMENT. VOLUNTEER SERVICE IS RECOGNIZED WITH SMALL AWARDS SUCH AS PLAQUES, AND LONG-TIME MEMBERS ARE MEMORIALIZED BY THE GIVING OF DONATIONS IN THEIR HONOR TO NONPROFITS SUCH AS LIBRARIES. RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION EFFORTS INCLUDE SOCIAL MEDIA POSTING. CLUB HISTORY ARCHIVES (EXPENSES 4,838): CAXTON CLUB'S ARCHIVE OF THE ORGANIZATION'S HISTORICAL DOCUMENTS, PUBLICATIONS, POSTERS, AND OTHER ARTIFACTS IS MAINTAINED AT THE NEWBERRY LIBRARY AND IS UNDER THE DIRECTION AND CONTROL OF THE NEWBERRY STAFF. AS SUCH THE COLLECTION IS A RESOURCE AVAILABLE TO RESSEARCHERS AND HISTORIANS. CAXTON CLUB SUPPORTS THE EXPENSE OF THE PHYSICAL AND DIGITAL ARCHIVE BY MEANS OF FEES PAID TO THE NEWBERRY LIBRARY.
THE CLUB'S BI-MONTHLY PUBLICATION FEATURES ARTICLES ON SUBJECTS RELATED TO BOOK COLLECTING, BOOK ARTS, PUBLISHING, RESEARCH, AND LITERATURE; INTERVIEWS WITH MEMBERS ABOUT THEIR COLLECTIONS; AND LISTINGS OF BOOK- RELATED EXHIBITS AND EVENTS. THE PUBLICATION'S EDITOR IS A MEMBER VOLUNTEER WHO DONATED APPROXIMATELY 500 HOURS TO THE EFFORT. THE PRINT VERSION OF THE CAXTONIAN IS MAILED TO ALL MEMBERS. IT IS ALSO REPRODUCED DIGITALLY AND THE CURRENT ISSUE IS POSTED ON THE CLUB'S WEB SITE (CAXTONCLUB.ORG); A DIGITAL ARCHIVE OF BACK ISSUES IS AVAILABLE TO MEMBERS.
