IN FY22, EIGHT (8) NEW SINGLE-FAMILY HOMES WERE COMPLETED AND SOLD AT FAIR MARKET VALUE TO LOW-INCOME FAMILIES, FINANCED BY NORTHERN FOX VALLEY WITH ZERO INTEREST LOANS - FOUR (4) IN CRYSTAL LAKE, IL; TWO (2) IN BATAVIA, IL; ONE (1) IN CARPENTERSVILLE, IL AND ONE (1) IN SOUTH ELGIN, IL. THE ORGANIZATION EXPANDED ITS HOME PRESERVATION SERVICES BY ADDING AN AGING IN PLACE PROGRAM TO ITS EXISTING BRUSH WITH KINDNESS AND CRITICAL HOME REPAIR PROGRAMS. THE MAIN GOAL OF THE NEW AGING IN PLACE PROGRAM IS TO ADDRESS THE HOUSING MODIFICATION NEEDS OF SENIORS. EXAMPLES OF MODIFICATIONS WHICH WILL ALLOW SENIORS TO ENTER, EXIT AND LIVE IN THEIR HOMES MORE SAFELY INCLUDE THE INSTALLATION OF ACCESSIBILITY RAMPS, WALK-IN BATHTUBS, HANDRAILS FOR STAIRS, HALLWAYS, BEDROOMS, AND BATHROOMS, UPGRADED LIGHTING, LEVERED DOOR HANDLES AND THE ELIMINATION OF TRIP HAZARDS. THIRTY-NINE (39) HOME PRESERVATION PROJECTS WERE COMPLETED IN FY22. IN TOTAL, FORTY-SEVEN (47) FAMILIES WERE SERVED DURING THE FISCAL YEAR. PRODUCTS AND PROCEEDS FROM RESTORE ELGIN AND RESTORE ARLINGTON HEIGHTS WERE USED FOR HOME CONSTRUCTION AND HOME PRESERVATION PROJECTS AND THE RESTORES DIVERTED 1,450 TONS FROM LANDFILLS. IN FY22, THE ORGANIZATION TITHED $46,000. THE MAJORITY OF TITHE FUNDS WERE DESIGNATED TO HABITAT FOR HUMANITY GUATEMALA FOR THE BUILDING OF FIVE (5) HOMES IN GUATEMALA. PORTIONS OF THE REMAINING TITHE FUNDS WERE DESIGNATED TO HABITAT FOR HUMANITY INDONESIA, HABITAT FOR HUMANITY ETHIOPIA AND THE UKRAINE EMERGENCY RESPONSE THROUGH HABITAT FOR HUMANITY'S INTERNATIONAL DISASTERS FUND. THE UKRAINE EMERGENCY RESPONSE HELPED REFUGEE FAMILIES WHO WERE FLEEING FLEEING VIOLENCE AND ENTERING POLAND, HUNGARY, ROMANIA AND SLOVAKIA ALONG THE PATH TO MORE PERMANENT, DURABLE SHELTER.
HABITAT OPERATES A RESALE SHOP, CALLED RESTORE, WHERE CLIENTS CAN PURCHASE A VARIETY OF NEW OR GENTLY USED BUILDING MATERIALS AND FURNITURE. MANY OF THE ITEMS SOLD ARE DONATIONS FROM THE GENERAL PUBLIC.
