PUBLIC ACCESS TO NATURAL AREAS: LAND ACQUISITION AND MANAGEMENT, AND BUILD AND MAINTAIN TRAILS. GREEN EARTH CURRENTLY OWNS SIX PRESERVES OPEN TO THE PUBLIC 365 DAYS A YEAR. THE PRESERVES CONTAIN PARKING LOTS AND NINE MILES OF HIKING TRAILS WHICH MUST BE INITIALLY CONSTRUCTED AND SUBSEQUENTLY MAINTAINED FOR THE PUBLIC TO BE ABLE TO ACCESS THE PRESERVES. EXPENSES CONSIST OF MOWING, AMENDING TRAILS AND PARKING AREAS WITH GRAVEL, ADDING SIGNAGE, CONSTRUCTING FOOTBRIDGES, ETC.
LAND MANAGEMENT: INVASIVE SPECIES CONTROL, NATIVE PLANTINGS, CONTROLLED BURNS, TIMBER STAND IMPROVEMENT GREEN EARTH'S PRESERVES ARE MANAGED TO PROMOTE NATIVE FLORA AND FAUNA. BECAUSE MOST OF THIS LAND WAS IN POOR CONDITION UPON ACQUISITION (FALLOW FARM LAND, OVERGRAZED PASTURE, ETC.) SIGNIFICANT TIME, ENERGY, AND FUNDS ARE USED FOR HABITAT MANAGEMENT. EXPENSES CONSIST OF PURCHASING HAND TOOLS, POWER TOOLS, PERSONAL PROTECTIVE GEAR, HERBICIDES, HERBICIDE APPLICATORS, TRAININGS, ETC.
ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION AND OUTREACH: TRAIL GUIDES/TRAIL SIGNS, CLASSROOM FIELD TRIPS/GOING TO CLASSROOMS, TABLING EVENTS, PUBLIC SPEAKING, NEWSLETTER, WEBSITE, AND SOCIAL MEDIA. GREEN EARTH EDUCATES ON ENVIRONMENTAL TOPICS PASSIVELY THROUGH OUR NEWSLETTER, WEBSITE, SOCIAL MEDIA, TRAIL GUIDES, AND TRAIL SIGNS. WE ACTIVELY EDUCATE ON ENVIRONMENTAL TOPICS BY HOSTING SCHOOL FIELD TRIPS, VISITING CLASSROOMS AS GUEST SPEAKERS, TABLING AT EVENTS, AND SPEAKING IN BOTH PUBLIC AND PRIVATE VENUES. EXPENSES CONSIST OF PRINTING TRAIL GUIDES, PURCHASING TRAIL SIGNS AND KIOSKS, PUBLISHING A QUARTERLY NEWSLETTER, EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS, AND CRAFT SUPPLIES FOR CHILDREN'S ACTVITIES.
