MUSIC OF THE BAROQUE IS A PROFESSIONAL PERFORMING ARTS ORGANIZATION EXCELLING IN THE PERFORMANCE OF CHORAL AND ORCHESTRAL WORKS OF THE 17TH AND 18TH CENTURIES. THE ORGANIZATION ALSO EDUCATES 1200 CHICAGO PUBLIC SCHOOL STUDENTS EACH YEAR THROUGH ITS "STRONG VOICES" CHORAL EDUCATION PROGRAM.

UNDER THE DIRECTION OF INTERNATIONALLY ACCLAIMED BRITISH CONDUCTOR DAME JANE GLOVER, MUSIC OF THE BAROQUE'S PROFESSIONAL CHORUS AND ORCHESTRA IS ONE OF THE LEADING ENSEMBLES IN THE COUNTRY DEVOTED TO THE PERFORMANCE OF WORKS FROM THE SEVENTEENTH AND EIGHTEENTH CENTURIES.DURING THE FISCAL YEAR, THE ORCHESTRA CONTINUED FULL-TIME LIVE PROGRAMMING OF CHORAL AND ORCHESTRAL CONCERTS INCLUDING TWO LARGE CHORAL WORKS BY J.S. BACH AND BY HANDEL, AND OTHER WORKS BY MOZART, HAYDN, BACH, HANDEL, AND OTHERS. LESSER-KNOWN WORKS ARE ALSO FEATURED AS MUSIC OF THE BAROQUE SEEKS TO EXPAND THE AWARENESS OF AND APPRECIATION FOR WORKS FROM THE RENAISSANCE, BAROQUE AND EARLY CLASSICAL PERIODS. DEVOTED TO EXPANDING ITS AUDIENCE AND ITS REACH TO A WIDER, MORE DIVERSE POPULATION, MUSIC OF THE BAROQUE PRESENTED 18 PERFORMANCES OF 8 DISTINCT PROGRAMS TO A TOTAL AUDIENCE OF OVER 23,000 PEOPLE INCLUDING STREAMING ON DEMAND. THE PERFORMANCES TAKE PLACE IN TWO MAIN VENUES, THE 1500-SEAT HARRIS THEATER IN MILLENNIUM PARK CHICAGO AND THE 850-SEAT NORTH SHORE CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS IN SUBURBAN SKOKIE, AS WELL AS CONCERTS IN 4 CHURCHES IN CHICAGO AND THE NORTH AND WESTERN SUBURBS.COMMUNITY PERFORMANCES EXPANDED OUR WORK TO REACH NEW AUDIENCES. THESE INCLUDED FREE PERFORMANCES IN THE AUSTIN AND ENGLEWOOD NEIGHBORHOODS OF CHICAGO, COLLABORATING WITH SUCH ARTISTS AS AMERICAN SINGER REGINALD MOBLEY AND SOUTH CHICAGO DANCE THEATER. MUSIC OF THE BAROQUE ALSO RUNS A HIGHLY REGARDED CHORAL EDUCATION PROGRAM "STRONG VOICES" FOR 1200 CHICAGO HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS IN UNDER-RESOURCED SCHOOLS WITH FREE REGULAR VOICE LESSONS. OPPORTUNITIES ARE PROVIDED FOR PUBLIC PERFORMANCES WITH THE MUSIC OF THE BAROQUE ENSEMBLE AT OUR CONCERTS AND AT OUR GALA BENEFIT. MUSIC OF THE BAROQUE BROADCASTS REGULARLY ON 98.7 WFMT RADIO, NOT JUST ACROSS CHICAGO BUT ALSO ACROSS THE NATION THROUGH SYNDICATED STATIONS.AS THE ORGANIZATION CONTINUES TO CELEBRATE ITS 50+ YEARS, AN AMBITIOUS SERIES OF CONCERTS, OUTREACH EVENTS, RECORDINGS AND SPECIAL EVENTS WILL FURTHER ENHANCE THE ORGANIZATION'S IMPACT ON AUDIENCES ACROSS CHICAGO AND BEYOND.
