THE COLLEGE IS ORGANIZED TO ADVANCE THE SCIENCE OF RADIOLOGY, IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF PATIENT CARE, POSITIVELY INFLUENCE THE SOCIOECONOMICS OF THE PRACTICE OF RADIOLOGY, PROVIDE CONTINUING EDUCATION FOR RADIOLOGY AND ALLIED HEALTH PROFESSIONALS, AND CONDUCT RESEARCH FOR THE FUTURE OF RADIOLOGY.

RESEARCH - THE AMERICAN COLLEGE OF RADIOLOGY CONDUCTS RESEARCH OF MEDICAL IMAGING SPANNING ALL ASPECTS OF DIAGNOSTIC AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY TO INCLUDE THE CLINICAL USE OF RADIOLOGY PROCEDURES TO DETECT AND TREAT DISEASE AS WELL AS HEALTH POLICY STUDIES RELATED TO USE OF RADIOLOGIC IMAGING. FUNDING FOR RESEARCH IS PROVIDED BY FEDERAL AND NON-FEDERAL SPONSORS THROUGH GRANTS AND CONTRACTUAL RELATIONSHIPS. THE SPECIFIC NUMBER AND SIZE OF THE RESEARCH PROJECTS BEING CONDUCTED BY ACR VARIES OVER TIME, AND OVER THE PAST 3 YEARS THESE PROJECTS HAVE ENGAGED OVER 75,000 CANCER PATIENTS; OVER 3,000 PATIENTS WITH POTENTIAL ALZHEIMERS DISEASE, AND OVER 100,000 PATIENTS TREATED FOR COVID.(CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O)IN ADDITION, THE ACR'S EFFORTS HAVE LED TO FDA APPROVAL OF SEVERAL IMAGING PRODUCTS AND IMAGING PLATFORMS WHICH HAVE APPLICATION TO MULTIPLE DISEASES AS WELL AS THE DEVELOPMENT OF AI ALGORITHMS WHICH ARE ENHANCING CLINICAL PRACTICE.
QUALITY AND SAFETY - THE COLLEGE DISSEMINATES AND MONITORS PRACTICE PARAMETERS AND TECHNICAL STANDARDS AND APPROPRIATENESS CRITERIA FOR RADIOLOGY, DEVELOPS AND MAINTAINS ACCREDITATION PROGRAMS, PERFORMANCE MEASURES AND REGISTRIES TO PROMOTE QUALITY HEALTHCARE IN DIAGNOSTIC IMAGING AND RADIATION ONCOLOGY. ACCREDITATION CERTIFICATION OF EQUIPMENT IN 10 DIFFERENT AREAS OF FOCUS (MODALITIES). SERVING APPROX 40K ACTIVE ACCREDITED ENTITIES WITH 63K ACCREDITED UNITS. 5,200 FACILITIES ACTIVELY PARTICIPATING IN DATA REGISTRIES.(CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O)ACR Q&S AFFECTS PRACTICALLY EVERY PERSON IN THE US - MOST PEOPLE HAVE AT LEAST ONE IMAGING EXAM DURING THEIR LIFETIME AND WHEN THEY DO, ACR GUIDELINES, ACCREDITATION, AND QUALITY PROGRAMS GUIDE, VALIDATE, AND SUPPORT THE QUALITY AND SAFETY OF THEIR CARE.
EDUCATION - THE COLLEGE PROVIDES A BROAD PORTFOLIO OF MEDICAL EDUCATION ACTIVITIES FOR RADIOLOGISTS, RADIATION ONCOLOGISTS, MEDICAL PHYSICISTS, INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGISTS, NUCLEAR MEDICINE PHYSICIANS, RESIDENTS IN TRAINING, AND MEDICAL STUDENTS TO POSITION THEM AT THE FOREFRONT OF PATIENT CARE, ADDRESS PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE GAPS, MAINTAIN CERTIFICATION AND FULFILL REQUIREMENTS FOR ONGOING PHYSICIAN PRACTICE EVALUATION.
