FURTHERMORE, COPS PROVIDES TRAINING TO LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES ON SURVIVOR VICTIMIZATION ISSUES AND EDUCATES THE PUBLIC OF THE NEED TO SUPPORT THE LAW ENFORCEMENT PROFESSION AND ITS SURVIVORS. EACH YEAR BETWEEN 140 AND 160 OFFICERS ARE KILLED IN THE LINE OF DUTY, AND THEIR FAMILIES AND CO-WORKERS ARE LEFT TO COPE WITH THE TRAGIC LOSS. COPS PROVIDES RESOURCES TO HELP THEM REBUILD THEIR SHATTERED LIVES. OVER 500 INDIANA POLICE OFFICERS HAVE BEEN KILLED IN THE LINE OF DUTY, AND THEIR SACRIFICES WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN. IN MAY EACH YEAR, THE NAMES OF POLICE OFFICERS WHO DIED IN THE LINE OF DUTY THE PREVIOUS YEAR, ARE ADDED TO THE NATIONAL POLICE OFFICER'S MEMORIAL. NATIONAL CONCERNS OF POLICE SURVIVORS HOLDS A CONFERENCE AND HAS SURVIVOR SESSIONS TO HELP WITH THE HEALING PROCESS. THERE IS A NATIONAL POLICE MEMORIAL THAT IS HELD ON THE CAPITAL LAWN. OUR CHAPTER ASSISTS IN GETTING THE NEW SURVIVING FAMILIES TO THE EVENTS, INCLUDING TRAVEL AND LODGING, AND PAST SURVIVING FAMILIES WHO NEED ASSISTANCE IN ATTENDING.
