NORTHERN INDIANA EDUCATION FOUNDATION, INC. (NIEF) PROMOTES AND SUPPORTS EDUCATION IN NORTHERN INDIANA, WITH A SPECIFIC EMPHASIS ON MEDICALLY RELATED ACTIVITIES. NIEF RAISES FUNDS, MAINTAINS A MEDICAL LIBRARY, CONDUCTS EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS, PROVIDES ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT AND FUNDS VARIOUS CONTRACTUAL RELATIONSHIPS FOR LAKESHORE MEDICAL TRAINING PROGRAMS, INC.EXEMPT PURPOSE ACHIEVEMENTS:THE FOUNDATION PROVIDES CONTINUING EDUCATION PROGRAMS ACCREDITED BY THE INDIANA STATE MEDICAL ASSOCIATION AND THE IACET, FOR PHYSICIANS, NURSES AND OTHER HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS. THE FOUNDATION'S ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF MAINTAINS CME AND CEU RECORDS FOR ALL ATTENDEES. DURING 2021, NIEF SPONSORED 782 CME HOURS OF CONTINUING MEDICAL EDUCATION FOR PHYSICIANS AND OTHER HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS. NIEF MAINTAINED CME RECORDS FOR 1,949 PHYSICIAN ATTENDEES AND 2,953 NON-PHYSICIANS.THE FOUNDATION FUNDED PROGRAMS AND PROVIDED TEACHERS AND ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF TO TRAIN NURSING AIDS THROUGH THE LAKESHORE MEDICAL TRAINING PROGRAMS. NATIONAL ACCREDITATION IS MAINTAINED FOR THESE PROGRAMS. NIEF CURRENTLY HAS 20 NURING ASSISTANT STUDENTS. THE FOUNDATION MAINTAINS A COMPREHENSIVE MEDICAL LIBRARY SERVICE, STAFFED BY A FULL TIME MEDICAL LIBRARIAN, TO MEET THE RESEARCH NEEDS OF THE STUDENTS AND OTHER HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS. DURING 2021, THE MEDICAL LIBRARIAN PROVIDED RESEARCH MATERIALS, ARTICLES AND BOOK LOANS ON 574 OCCASIONS.THE FOUNDATION'S FACILITIES PROVIDED SPACE FOR MEETINGS AND OTHER MEDICAL EDUCATIONAL FUNCTIONS.
THE PROPERTY IS TO BE USED BY THE FRANCISCAN ALLIANCE, INC FORMERLY REFERRED TO AS SISTERS OF ST. FRANCIS HEALTH SERVICES, INC. (SSFHS) [A 501(C)(3)] TO PROVIDE MEDICAL CARE TO THE LAPORTE COUNTY, INDIANA POPULATION. DUE TO DEMOGRAPHICS OF THE POPULATION SURROUNDING THE PROPERTY, SIGNIFICANT MEDICAL CARE IS PROVIDED TO LAPORTE COUNTY RESIDENTS AT A DISCOUNT OR NO CHARGE TO THOSE ELIGIBLE RESIDENTS. FURTHERMORE, THE PROPERTY IS PREDOMINATELY USED BY FRANCISCAN ALLIANCE, INC. TO SUPPORT ITS CHARITABLE PURPOSES INCLUDING BEING REASONABLE AND NECESSARY TO THE CHARITABLE PURPOSES BY PROVIDING A LOCATION FOR PHYSICIANS TO PROVIDE MEDICAL CARE TO THE LAPORTE COUNTY POPULATION, INCLUDING THE INDIGENT POPULATION.

ACQUIRED A BUILDING AND ENTERED INTO A LEASE AGREEMENT WITH HEALTHLINC, INC., A NON-PROFIT ORGAINZATION 501(C)(3), FOR HEALTHLINC TO USE THE FACILITY FOR PHYSICANS TO PROVIDE MEDICAL CARE FOR THE UNINSURED AND UNDERINSURED LOCAL POPULATION. HEALTHLINC, INC. IS ORGANIZED FOR THE PURPOSE OF PROVIDING PRIMARY MEDICAL, DENTAL, AND MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES TO THE UNDERSERVED OF NORTHWEST INDIANA. HEALTHLINC, INC. IS ALSO WORKING WITH LOCAL CARE PROVIDERS TO ACCOMPLISH ITS PURPOSE.THE FOUNDATION DOES NOT SEEK TO MAKE A PROFIT UNDER THE SUBJECT LEASE AGREEMENT. THE FOUNDATION PROVIDES, AT NO CHARGE, OFFICE SPACE TO OPEN DOOR COMMUNITY ALLIANCE A 501(C)(3).
