WHILE MAGRUDER CONTINUES ITS COMMITMENT TO SERVING THE PUBLIC HEALTH PREVENTION AND HEALTH EDUCATION NEEDS IN THE COMMUNITIES OF OTTAWA COUNTY, THE ONGOING EFFECTS OF COVID CONTINUE TO IMPACT HOW WE ARE ABLE TO REACH THE COMMUNITY THROUGH SCREENINGS AND EDUCATION EVENTS. WE CONTINUE TO UTILIZE NEW WAYS OF REACHING OUT TO THE COMMUNITIES THROUGH DIGITAL AND SOCIAL MEDIA VENUES. -WE RE-STARTED OUR MONTHLY REDUCED FEE CHOLESTEROL SCREENING FOR THE COMMUNITY: TOTAL OF 400 PARTICIPANTS BETWEEN APRIL AND DECEMBER.-CONTINUE TO OFFER FLU VACCINE FOR THE PUBLIC WITH NO APPOINTMENT DURING BUSINESS HOURS 7 DAYS A WEEK AT THE PHARMACY. -ADMINISTERED 331 FLU SHOTS AT BUSINESSES, AND SCHOOLS FOR EMPLOYEES IN 2021.-DESPITE BEING UNABLE TO OFFER OUR ANNUAL MEDICARE EDUCATION & COMPARISON EVENT, WE STILL PROVIDED MEDICARE COMPARISONS FOR 59 PEOPLE.-FREE COLORECTAL HEALTH SCREENING KITS TO THE COMMUNITY (63 PARTICIPANTS)-BOARD INVOLVEMENT IN: PROJECT LIFESAVER, 3 AREA CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE, OTTAWA COUNTY COUNCIL OF HEALTH & SOCIAL CONCERNS, OTTAWA COUNTY TASK FORCE ON AGING, DRUG FREE COLLABORATIVE, OSU EXTENSION-MAGRUDER SPONSORED 8 BLOOD DRIVES IN 2021 WHICH INCLUDES NOT ONLY THE SPACE AND PROMOTION FOR THE EVENT BUT ALSO ALLOWING EMPLOYEES TO DONATE ON WORK TIME. -PROVIDED TRANSPORTATION FOR PATIENTS WITH NO WAY HOME ($902)-PROVIDED HEALTH EDUCATION PROGRAMS FOR 443 PARTICIPANTS. ALTHOUGH WE STILL WERE UNABLE TO DO GROUP EDUCATION PROGRAMS AT THE HOSPITAL, WE DID PROVIDE A NUMBER OF EDUCATIONAL SESSIONS IN THE COMMUNITY AND ONLINE. TOPICS INCLUDED: COVID, COMMUNITY HEALTH, ORGAN DONATION, PALLIATIVE CARE, FOOD LABELS, EXERCISE, HOW TO PREPARE VEGGIES, EMERGENCY RESPONSE SYSTEMS, RECIPES, HEALTHY AGING, DIABETES. -ALTHOUGH MANY EVENTS AND INITIATIVES WERE CANCELLED OR POSTPONED, MAGRUDER HOSPITAL STILL SPONSORED OR PARTICIPATED IN THE FOLLOWING COMMUNITY BUILDING ACTIVITIES: -OTTAWA COUNTY FAIR -JOYFUL CONNECTIONS - 4H -OVERDOSE AWARENESS -ELDER ABUSE AWARENESS -SUMMER LUNCH PROGRAM -SALVATION ARMYTHESE COMMUNITY BUILDING ACTIVITIES SUPPORT ORGANIZATIONS THAT ASSIST COMMUNITY MEMBERS IN OBTAINING THE RESOURCES AND SERVICES THEY NEED, WHETHER IT IS ADVOCACY, EXERCISE, SAFE AND AFFORDABLE HOUSING, SHELTER, NUTRITION, MEDICAL EQUIPMENT, OR SAFE ACTIVITIES FOR TEENS.-MAGRUDER ASSISTED THE OTTAWA COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT WITH VACCINE EVENTS AT THE HOSPITAL AND IN THE COMMUNITY IN 2021. -MAGRUDER IMPLEMENTED A STAFF COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT PROGRAM WHERE THE HOSPITAL PAYS EMPLOYEES TO VOLUNTEER 4 HOURS IN THE COMMUNITY. IN 2021, 240 EMPLOYEES WERE PAID TO VOLUNTEER 2,300+ HOURS.-MAGRUDER ALSO PROVIDES FREE MEALS TO PATIENTS DISCHARGING FROM SURGERY, ONCOLOGY, AND MED/SURG. THE HOSPITAL PROVIDED 1,519 OF THESE MEALS IN 2021. COMMUNITY HEALTH NEEDS ASSESSMENT STRATEGIES FOR 2021REGARDING THE TOPIC OF CHRONIC DISEASE IN OUR LATEST COMMUNITY HEALTH NEEDS ASSESSMENT & IMPLEMENTATION STRATEGY:MAGRUDER ASSISTED THE FAMILY ADVOCACY CENTER IN CREATING AND MAINTAINING THEIR NEW COMMUNITY GARDEN. THE PRODUCE WAS USED FOR FAC EVENTS AND CLIENTS, AS WELL AS GIVEN TO RESIDENTS NEAR THEIR BUILDING. MAGRUDER HOSTED TWO WELLNESS EVENTS IN THE SUMMER OF 2021 AND USED GRANT MONEY TO PURCHASE $1,000 IN FARMERS MARKET GIFT CERTIFICATES TO HAND OUT TO COMMUNITY MEMBERS FOR THE PURCHASE OF FRESH FRUITS & VEGETABLES.THE MAGRUDER NUTRITION DEPARTMENT BEGAN THE STEPS NECESSARY TO BECOME A NATIONAL DIABETES PREVENTION PROGRAM AND PILOTED THE PROGRAM WITH A SMALL GROUP OF INDIVIDUALS WHO COMPLETED THE PRE-DIABETES PREVENTION TOOL.
