WHILE MAGRUDER CONTINUES ITS COMMITMENT TO SERVING THE PUBLIC HEALTH PREVENTION AND HEALTH EDUCATION NEEDS IN THE COMMUNITIES OF OTTAWA COUNTY, THE ONGOING EFFECTS OF COVID CONTINUE TO IMPACT HOW WE ARE ABLE TO REACH THE COMMUNITY THROUGH SCREENINGS AND EDUCATION EVENTS. WE CONTINUE TO UTILIZE NEW WAYS OF REACHING OUT TO THE COMMUNITIES THROUGH DIGITAL AND SOCIAL MEDIA VENUES. -WE INCREASED THE TESTS WE OFFER AT OUR MONTHLY COMMUNITY LAB SCREENING IN JULY OF 2022. WE REACHED A TOTAL OF 302 INDIVIDUALS BETWEEN APRIL AND DECEMBER 2022.-WE CONTINUE TO OFFER FLU VACCINE FOR THE PUBLIC WITH NO APPOINTMENT DURING BUSINESS HOURS 7 DAYS A WEEK AT THE PHARMACY. -WE ADMINISTERED 194 FLU SHOTS AT BUSINESSES, AND SCHOOLS FOR EMPLOYEES IN 2022. THIS NUMBER CONTINUES TO GO DOWN DUE TO THE INCREASED AVAILABILITY OF OBTAINING A FLU SHOT AT MANY DIFFERENT LOCATIONS. -WE HELD OUR ANNUAL MEDICARE EDUCATION & COMPARISON EVENT AND HAD 28 ATTENDEES. WE ALSO PROVIDED ONE-ON-ONE COMPARISONS FOR 51 INDIVIDUALS. WE ALSO PRESENTED A MEDICARE OVERVIEW TO TWO GROUPS (36 INDIVIDUALS) IN THE COUNTY. -WE OFFERED A FREE SKIN CANCER SCREENING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC AND HAD 28 PARTICIPANTS. -MAGRUDER SPONSORED 7 BLOOD DRIVES IN 2022, ONE OF WHICH WAS JUST FOR MAGRUDER STAFF. FOR THESE BLOOD DRIVES, WE NOT ONLY PROVIDE FREE SPACE AND PROMOTION OF THE EVENT, BUT WE ALSO ALLOW EMPLOYEES TO DONATE ON WORK TIME. -WE PROVIDED $115 OF FREE TRANSPORTATION FOR PATIENTS WHO HAD NO OTHER WAY HOME. -WE PROVIDED HEALTH EDUCATION PROGRAMS FOR 204 PARTICIPANTS. ALTHOUGH WE STILL WERE UNABLE TO DO GROUP EDUCATION PROGRAMS AT THE HOSPITAL, WE PROVIDE HEALTH EDUCATION BLOGS ON OUR WEBSITE AND SOCIAL MEDIA, WE OFFER HEALTH TIPS IN OUR MONTHLY WELLNESS CALENDAR, AND WE RECORD A HEALTH & WELLNESS TV SHOW AT A LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL AND SHARE THE VIDEO WITH THE PUBLIC. TOPICS INCLUDED: DIABETES PREVENTION, GARDENING, CANCER SCREENINGS, SUBSTANCE ABUSE PREVENTION, PNEUMONIA AND SHINGLES VACCINES, DEPRESSION, SENIOR DIRECTORY, MASSAGE, CAREGIVER STRESS, CHRONIC PAIN AND CHILDHOOD VACCINES. -ALTHOUGH MANY EVENTS AND INITIATIVES WERE CANCELLED OR POSTPONED, MAGRUDER HOSPITAL STILL SPONSORED OR PARTICIPATED IN THE FOLLOWING COMMUNITY BUILDING ACTIVITIES: -OTTAWA COUNTY FAIR -JOYFUL CONNECTIONS - 4H -OVERDOSE AWARENESS -ELDER ABUSE AWARENESS -SUMMER LUNCH PROGRAM -SALVATION ARMYTHESE COMMUNITY BUILDING ACTIVITIES SUPPORT ORGANIZATIONS THAT ASSIST COMMUNITY MEMBERS IN OBTAINING THE RESOURCES AND SERVICES THEY NEED, WHETHER IT'S ADVOCACY, EXERCISE, SAFE AND AFFORDABLE HOUSING, SHELTER, NUTRITION, MEDICAL EQUIPMENT OR SAFE ACTIVITIES FOR TEENS.-MAGRUDER CONTINUED ITS STAFF COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT PROGRAM WHERE THE HOSPITAL PAYS EMPLOYEES TO VOLUNTEER 4 HOURS IN THE COMMUNITY. IN 2022 MAGRUDER PAID EMPLOYEES TO VOLUNTEER 820 HOURS IN THE COMMUNITY. -MAGRUDER'S LEADERSHIP TEAM ALSO CONTINUES TO PARTICIPATE IN A VARIETY OF COMMUNITY BOARDS AND ORGANIZATIONS: 3 AREA CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE, OTTAWA COUNTY COUNCIL OF HEALTH & SOCIAL CONCERNS, OTTAWA COUNTY TASK FORCE ON AGING, PREVENTION COALITION, OSU EXTENSION, OTTAWA COUNTY IMPROVEMENT CORPORATION, OTTAWA COUNTY BUSINESS ADVISORY COUNCIL AND OTTAWA COUNTY SAFETY COUNCIL. -MAGRUDER CONTINUES TO PROVIDE FREE MEALS TO PATIENTS DISCHARGING FROM SURGERY, ONCOLOGY AND MED/SURG. THE HOSPITAL PROVIDED 1,045 OF THESE MEALS IN 2022. COMMUNITY HEALTH NEEDS ASSESSMENT STRATEGIES FOR 2022REGARDING THE TOPIC OF CHRONIC DISEASE IN OUR LATEST COMMUNITY HEALTH NEEDS ASSESSMENT & IMPLEMENTATION STRATEGY:MAGRUDER CONTINUED TO ASSIST THE FAMILY ADVOCACY CENTER AND ALSO HELPED PORT CLINTON CITY SCHOOLS IN MAINTAINING THEIR COMMUNITY GARDENS (WATERING AND WEEDING MOSTLY).
