DOUBLE ARC, SPONSORED BY THE SISTERS OF NOTRE DAME, SERVES CHILDREN WITH FETAL ALCOHOL SPECTRUM DISORDERS (FASD) AND THEIR FAMILIES THROUGH EDUCATION, INTERVENTION AND ADVOCACY. DOUBLE ARC IS A 501(C)3 NONPROFIT FOUNDED BY THE SISTERS OF NOTRE DAME IN 1992 TO ADDRESS THE NEEDS OF CHILDREN IN THE REGULAR CLASSROOM WHOSE BEHAVIOR AND ACADEMIC CHALLENGES PUT THEM AT RISK FOR FAILURE OR SUSPENSION. IT CONTINUES TODAY TO SERVE CHILDREN WITH FETAL ALCOHOL SPECTRUM DISORDERS (FASD) AND OTHER DIFFUSE BRAIN DAMAGE AND THEIR FAMILIES.

PROVIDED ADVOCACY AND SUPPORT BY COMPLETING OUR DIAGNOSTIC PROCESS WITH 8 CLIENTS. WE UTILIZE A MULTI-DISCIPLINARY TEAM OF MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS WHO REVIEW SCHOOL AND MEDICAL RECORDS, DO INDIVIDUAL ASSESSMENTS INCLUDING BY A DEVELOPMENTAL PEDIATRICIAN, NEUROPSYCHOLOGIST, OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST, SPEECH/LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST PLUS OUR FASD SPECIALISTS. TOTAL HOURS FOR DIAGNOSIS WERE 667. IN ADDITION, WE PROVIDED ONE-ON-ONE CONSULTING BY PHONE, EMAIL AND IN PERSON OF 434 HOURS, AMOUNTING TO 340 DIFFERENT CONTACTS. DOUBLE ARC ADVOCATED FOR OUR CLIENTS AT 12 SCHOOL MEETINGS, AND 3 TREATMENT TEAM MEETINGS. WE ASSISTED IN ORGANIZING AND PARTICIPATED IN 9 MEETINGS OF THE NORTHWEST OHIO FASD NETWORK FOR ADULTS WITH FASD AND WE BEGAN MONTHLY SUPPORT GROUP MEETINGS FOR PARENTS. DOUBLE ARC ALSO PIONEERED AN ASSESSMENT OF 325 HEAD START STUDENTS AT TOLEDO PUBLIC SCHOOLS.
OUR EDUCATIONAL TRAININGS INCLUDED PRESENTING AT 11 WORKSHOPS WITH 260 PARTICIPANTS. THESE INCLUDED EDUCATORS, SOCIAL SERVICE PROVIDERS AND PARENTS. DOUBLE ARC WAS PLEASED TO TRAIN PHYSICIAN ASSISTANTS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF TOLEDO, PLUS SPONSORED TRAININGS AT LOURDES UNIVERSITY FOR SERVICE PROVIDERS AND SCHOOL PROFESSIONALS. THIS YEAR WE ALSO PROVIDED TRAINING TO HEAD START TEACHERS AND PARENTS AT TOLEDO PUBLIC SCHOOLS. SR. SUZETTE FISHER PRESENTED A WEBINAR NATIONALLY ON FASD STRATEGIES. DOUBLE ARC ALSO INTRODUCED 16 NEW ONLINE PARENT EDUCATION VIDEOS.
