MAINTAIN A MILITARY AVIATION MUSEUM FOR THE PURPOSES OF ACTIVELY PRESERVING THE HISTORIC AIRCRAFT, RAISING COMMUNITY AWARENESS OF AND EDUCATING THE PUBLIC ON THE HISTORY OF MILITARY AVIATION

RESTORATION AND PRESERVATION OF MILITARY AIRCRAFT AND MAINTENANCE OF AN AIRCRAFT MUSEUM FACILITY FOR THE PURPOSE OF DISPLAYING HISTORICALLY SIGNIFICANT MEMORIALS AND AIRCRAFT DISPLAYS. THE MUSEUM IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. RESTORATION LABOR, MUSEUM GUIDES, FACILITY MAINTENANCE AND GIFT SHOP ATTENDANTS ARE MADE UP OF APPROXIMATELY 197 VOLUNTEERS WHO PROVIDED SERVICE HOURS OF 42,668 DURING 2021 AT NO COST TO THE ORGANIZATION. 2ND FLOOR KITCHEN&BANQUET HALL,RESTROOM RENOVATIONS WITH HVAC & OBSERVATION WINDOWS AND CLASSROOM RENOVATIONS/EQUIPMENT WERE COMPLETED OVER 2018-2020. 2ND FLOOR RENOVATIONS WITH BAR/DINING AREA COMPLETED IN 2021 DESIGNATED FUNDS FROM THE LINDH, GESSNER, TIMKEN, MILLER & CORBIN FOUNDATIONS CONTINUE TO SUPPORT BUILDING, HANGAR AND MUSEUM RENOVATION PROJECTS. STARK & AKRON COMMUNITY FOUNDATIONS AND OTHER INDIVIDUAL AND CORPORATE SPONSORS FUNDED THE RENOVATIONS ALONG WITH MAPS SELF FUNDING. THE CURATOR FUND WAS ACTIVE IN UPGRADING DISPLAY CASES AND GRAPHICS DISPLAYS, INCLUDING A NEW WALL MURAL IN THE LOBBY AND NEW SPEAKERS FOR THE GALLERY IN 2020 AND THE LIBRARY FUND PURCHASED A COMPUTER IN 2021 ROOF RENOVATIONS AND THE MAIN HANGAR PROJECT WAS BEGUN IN 2020 PREDOMINANTLY SELF FUNDED WITH BY THE MUSEUM FUNDS AND COMPLETED IN 2021.
AIRCRAFT RESTORATION, TOOLING, LIBRARY AND MEMORIAL DISPLAYS FOR DESIGNATED MUSEUM RESTORATIONS ESTABLISHED FOR A MULTIPURPOSE EDUCATIONAL FACILITY INCLUDING HANDS ON AVIATION RELATED PRESENTATIONS AND AUDIO VISUAL PROGRAMS. SEVERAL NEW DISPLAYS WERE COMPLETED AND UPDATED TO WITH THE USE OF GRANTS FROM THE SUPPORTING ORGANIZATIONS. FIVE NEW AIRCRAFT INCLUDING OV-1, PITTS SPECIAL,F102, F86A AND C47 ARE NEW ADDITIONS TO THE RESTORATION COLLECTION DURING 2019/2020 AND RESTORATIONS ARE CURRENTLY UNDERWAY. IN 2021, AN F7U NAVAL AIRCRAFT WAS ACQUIRED AND RESOTRATIONS ARE UNDERWAY. MAPS PARTICIPATES IN SEVERAL COMMUNITY EVENTS SUCH AS PARADES, PICNICS, AIRSHOWS, SCOUTING, VETERANS PROGRAMS AND OHIO NATIONAL GUARD FOOD DRIVES. .
EDUCATING THE PUBLIC ON THE HISTORY OF MILITARY AVIATION AND ITS IMPACT ON SOCIETY. THIS IS ACCOMPLISHED THROUGH THE OPERATIONS OF THE AVIATION MUSEUM FOR THE GENERAL PUBLIC ALONG WITH SPECIFIC PROGRAMS FOR GROUPS SUCH AS HIGH SCHOOL US HISTORY CLASSES, BOY SCOUTS, AND OTHER SUCH YOUNG PEOPLES' ORGANIZATIONS. SEVERAL VETERANS PROGRAMS AND SPECIAL CELEBRATIONS ARE ALSO HELD EACH YEAR. MAPS CHARTERS A CUB SCOUT GROUP AND SPONSORS SPECIAL GROUP EVENTS FOR THE ALL AGE SCOUTS. MEMBERSHIP INCLUDES 231 LIFETIME MEMBERSHIPS. EDUCATION PROGRAMS ARE SUPPORTED WITH GRANT FUNDS LOUISE TIMKEN FOUNDATION, AKRON COMMUNITY FOUNDATION. MAPS OFFERS OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS WITH INTERNSHIPS AND FIELD TRIPS FOR SCHOOL GROUPS TO TOUR THE MUSEUM.
