THE SIDNEY-SHELBY COUNTY YMCA FOUNDATION IS FORMED TO OPERATE EXCLUSIVELY FOR THE BENEFITS OF THE YOUNG MENS CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION OF SIDNEY & SHELBY COUNTY, A TAX EXEMPT ORGANIZATION, WHOSE MISSION IS TO PUT CHRISTIAN PRINCIPLES INTO PRACTICE TO BENEFIT ALL SHELBY COUNTY RESIDENTS THROUGH PROGRAMS THAT BUILD HEALTHY SPIRIT, MIND AND BODY FOR ALL. THE YMCA IS AN ALL INCLUSIVE ORGANIZATION. WE SERVE ALL INDIVIDUALS REGARDLESS OF THEIR ABILITY TO PAY.

THE LEE E SCHAUER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1990 TO HONOR THE MEMORY OF LEE E SCHAUER, A STUDENT AT SIDNEY HIGH SCHOOL WHO SUFFERED AN ACCIDENTAL DEATH IN 1989, THE SUMMER BEFORE HIS SENIOR YEAR. THE YMCA ENCOURAGES PEOPLE TO ACCEPT AND DEMONSTRATE POSITIVE VALUES IN THEIR LIVES LIKE CARING, HONESTY, RESPECT AND RESPONSIBILITY. RECIPIENTS ARE ASKED TO ARTICULATE WHAT THESE VALUES MEAN TO THEM AND HOW THEY HAVE DEMONSTRATED THEM IN THEIR LIVES. THE SCHOLARSHIP HAS TWO IMPORTANT GOALS, TO LOVINGLY HONOR THE MEMORY OF LEE E SCHAUER, AND TO MAKE A SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE IN THE LIFE OF THE RECIPIENT. THE 2021 SCHOLARSHIP AMOUNT WAS 12,000. IN ADDITION TO THE SCHAUER SCHOLARSHIP, THE YMCA ALSO OFFERS THE JAMES LANTZ MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP. JIM DIED IN 1986 AT THE AGE OF 15. HIS FAMILY CREATED THE SCHOLARSHIP TO HONOR JIM'S MEMORY AND TO MAKE A POSITIVE IMPACT IN THE LIFE OF THE RECIPIENT. THE 2021 SCHOLARSHIP AMOUNT WAS 1,000.
