THE NORTHERN OHIO HEMOPHILIA FOUNDATION SERVES THE BLEEDING DISORDERS COMMUNITY IN NORTHEAST OH. THE MISSION OF OUR CHAPTER IS TO ENHANCE THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR PEOPLE WITH BLEEDING DISORDERS & THEIR FAMILIES, THROUGH ADVOCACY, EDUCATION, RESEARCH & OTHER CONSTITUENCY SERVICES

THE PROGRAMS AND SERVICES OFFERED BY THE ORGANIZATION INCLUDE: -DADS IN ACTION: A PROGRAM DESIGNED BY HFA FOR MALE CAREGIVERS OF CHILDREN WITH BLEEDING DISORDERS. THE PROGRAM ENCOURAGES FATHERS TO TAKE AN ACTIVE ROLE IN THEIR CHILDS LIFE AND PROVIDES INFORMATION, SUPPORT AND MENTORING FOR THEM. -BLOOD BROTHERHOOD: BLOOD BROTHERHOOD IS A NATIONAL PROGRAM DESIGNED BY HFA FOR ADULT MEN, DIAGNOSED AND LIVING WITH BLEEDING DISORDERS. IT IS DESIGNED TO BE A MULTI-AVENUE OUTREACH, TO PROVIDE EDUCATION AND SUPPORT, PROMOTE GOOD HEALTH, AND ESTABLISH A SENSE OF COMMUNITY FOR ADULT MEN. -WOMANS TASK FORCE: THIS PROJECT PROVIDES INFORMATION AND PROGRAMING FOR WOMEN WITH BLEEDING DISORDERS. THE PRIMARY FOCUS IS TO PROVIDE OUTREACH TO AID IN EARLIER DIAGNOSIS. WE PRIMARILY SERVE THE BLEEDING DISORDERS COMMUNITY IN THE 24 COUNTIES IN NORTHEAST OHIO, ALTHOUGH OUR DENTAL PROGRAM AND ADVOCACY PROGRAM SERVES THE ENTIRE STATE. WE HAVE MANY STRONG RELATIONSHIPS IN THE BLEEDING DISORDER COMMUNITY. WE ARE A CHARTER MEMBER OF THE NATIONAL HEMOPHILIA FOUNDATION (NHF) AND A MEMBER ORGANIZATION OF THE HEMOPHILIA FOUNDATION OF AMERICA (HFA). STAFF ATTENDS CONFERENCES THROUGH BOTH ORGANIZATIONS TO KEEP UPDATED ON NEW TREATMENTS, MEDICATION, AND EDUCATIONAL ADVANCEMENTS. WE ARE ALSO A MEMBER OF THE OHIO BLEEDING DISORDER COUNCIL (OBDC). THIS STATEWIDE GROUP PROVIDES INFORMATION ABOUT ADVOCACY WITHIN THE STATE AND NATIONALLY. NOHF PARTICIPATES IN WASHINGTON DAYS AND STATEHOUSE DAYS TO GIVE OUR MEMBERS THE CHANCE TO MEET WITH STATE AND NATIONAL OFFICIALS. -YOUTH GOLF PROGRAM: THIS PROGRAM IS AVAILABLE TO CHILDREN AGE 10 TO 18 TO LEARN THE GAME OF GOLF. THE PROGRAM RUNS WEEKLY FOR 8 WEEKS, AT A CENTRALLY LOCATED COURSE, DURING THE SUMMER TO TEACH NEW SKILLS AND ALSO PROVIDE WEEKLY EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS RELATING TO THEIR BLEEDING DISORDERS. SIBLINGS ARE ALSO WELCOME TO ATTEND THIS PROGRAM. -SWIM PROGRAM: THIS PROGRAM PROVIDES 8 WEEKS OF SWIM CLASSES AT THREE INDOOR POOLS, INCLUDING YMCA AND COMMUNITY POOLS, IN NORTHEAST OHIO. THE PROGRAM IS OPEN TO ALL AGES TO LEARN HOW TO SWIM OR TO INCREASE THEIR SWIMMING SKILLS. THE PROGRAM RUNS FROM JANUARY THROUGH MARCH. -VARIOUS WELLNESS INITIATIVES: WE OFFER VARIOUS WELLNESS INITIATIVES THROUGHOUT THE YEAR INCLUDING YOGA, RUN TRAINING PROGRAMS AND GUIDED IMAGERY. -STEPS FOR LIVING: A PROGRAM FOR NEWLY DIAGNOSED FAMILIES BASED ON THE MODEL PROVIDED BY NHF. IT PROVIDES EDUCATIONAL QUARTERLY MEETINGS AND SUPPORT FOR PARENTS AND OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS DURING THE EARLY COPING YEARS THROUGH FAMILY-TO-FAMILY SUPPORT AND MENTORING. -COUNSELING: UP TO $500 PER FAMILY PER YEAR FOR INDIVIDUAL OR FAMILY COUNSELING. -CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS: WE SEND CHILDREN TO HEMOPHILIA-GEARED CAMPS AND PROVIDE EITHER TRANSPORTATION OR MILEAGE REIMBURSEMENT. -EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS: WE PROVIDE UP TO $500 EACH YEAR FOR PEOPLE WITH BLEEDING DISORDERS AND THEIR CAREGIVERS FOR TUITION, TUTORING OR EDUCATIONAL SUPPLIES, SUCH AS BOOKS. -MEDICALERT: WE PROVIDE EMBLEMS AND YEARLY MEMBERSHIP TO CHILDREN AND ADULTS WITH BLEEDING DISORDERS. -EMERGENCY FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: ELIGABLE FAMILIES MAY REQUEST $500 PER YEAR FOR ASSISTANCE IF THEIR FINANCIAL DURESS IS DIRECTLY RELATED TO THEIR BLEEDING DISORDER.
