SUPPORT THE VALLARTA BOTANICAL GARDENS IN PURSUIT OF THEIR GOAL OF CREATING MEXICO'S FOREMOST BOTANICAL GARDEN FOR THE DISCOVERY, STUDY, PROPAGATION, CONSERVATION AND DISPLAY OF MEXICAN NATIVE AND EXOTIC PLANTS FOR THE ENJOYMENT OF PUERTO VALLARTA'S RESIDENTS AND VISITORS.

THE VALLARTA BOTANICAL GARDENS CONTINUED ITS PROGRAMS IN HORTICULTURE (PLANT PROPAGATION, PLANT COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT, DISPLAY DEVELOPMENT AND MAINTENANCE), PUBLIC EDUCATION AND PLANT CONSERVATION AS WELL AS DEVELOPING ITS NEW ROLE IN ENVIRONMENTAL LEADERSHIP AND CONSERVATION FOR THE CABO CORRIENTES REGION. HORTICULTURE AND COLLECTIONS - IMPROVEMENTS TO GROUNDS AND COLLECTIONS CONTINUED WITH WORK ON A NEW WATER GARDEN AND WATERFALL TO MAKE ROOM FOR THE LARGE VICTORIA LILIES AND TO EXPAND THE AQUATIC PLANT COLLECTION. A NEW STAIRWAY WAS ALSO COMPLETED TO SHORTEN THE PATH FROM THE MAIN BUILDING AND CACTUS HOUSE TO THE SWIMMING AREA AT THE RIO HORCONES AND BRICK STAIRWAYS AND HANDRAILS ADDED TO THE TRAIL. HURRICANE NORA IN AUGUST OF THIS YEAR DOWNED MANY LARGE TREES AND DAMAGED THE
SALES AREA AS WELL AS THE ROOF OF THE CACTUS AND SUCCULENT HOUSE REQUIRING AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF CLEAN UP AND REPAIR. MORE PERMANENT REPAIRS WILL BE CARRIED OUT IN 2022. WORLD RENOWNED ARTISTS AUSTIN YOUNG AND DAVID ALLEN BURNS OF FALLEN FRUIT BASED IN LOS ANGELES,CA INSTALLED A BESPOKE EXAMPLE OF THEIR UNIQUE ART IN THE INTERIOR OF THE CHAPEL OF OUR LADY OF THE GARDEN. THE WALL COVERING IS CREATED FROM HUNDREDS OF ORIGINAL PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE GARDENS AS WELL AS HISTORIC WATERCOLORS AND LITHOGRAPHS BY MEXICAN BOTANIST RAFAEL MONTES DE OCA AND BRITISH ORNITHOLOGIST JOHN GOULD. FLORA AND FAUNA COMBINE WITH ORCHIDS AND HUMMINGBIRDS INTERMINGLING WITH SEASONAL FAVORITES FROM THE BOTANICAL COLLECTION. THE ARTISTS HAVE ALSO INSTALLED SIMILAR INSTALLATIONS
IN ROME, MEBOURNE AND LONDON.PUBLIC EDUCATION AND VOLUNTEER HOURS - DESPITE THE DROP IN VISITORSHIP DUE TO BOTH HURRICAN NORA AND THE COVID 19 DELTA VARIANT VISITATION REMAINED RELATIVELY GOOD WITH AN ESTIMATE OF APPROXIMATELY 28,750 VISITS. IN APRIL FESTIVITIES IN SUPPORT OF CANADAS YEAR OF THE GARDEN BECAUSE OF THE LULL IN TOURISM.SPECIAL FESTIVALS THIS YEAR INCLUDED AN EXHIBITION DE CERAMICA, THE INAGURATION OF THE LILY POND AND AN EVENT TO CELEBRATE THE ART EXHIBIT LOS ANGELITOS DE MEXICO. MOST LARGER FESTIVALS, VOLUNTEER HOURS AND CLASSES WERE CANCELLED DUE TO THE PANDEMIC AND EMERGING DELTA VARIANT. (CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O)
