HOME TO ONE OF THE WORLDS FINEST COLLECTIONS OF MEDITERRANEAN AND SUBTROPICAL PLANTS, THE 127-ACRE LOS ANGELES COUNTY ARBORETUM & BOTANIC GARDEN SERVES AS AN IMPORTANT REPOSITORY FOR SPECIES OF BIOLOGICAL AND ECONOMIC IMPORTANCE. THE ARBORETUM LANDSCAPE ALSO SERVES AS A RICH HISTORICAL SITE THAT INCLUDES NATIVE AMERICAN, RANCHO PERIOD, AND LATE 19TH CENTURY TREASURES, INCLUDING FOUR HISTORIC LANDMARK BUILDINGS.
IN ADDITION TO ITS EXTENSIVE VISITOR TOUR PROGRAM, THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY ARBORETUM & BOTANIC GARDEN OFFERS ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS THAT CATER TO EVERY AUDIENCE, SERVING OVER 500,000 VISITORS A YEAR. ADULT EDUCATION PROGRAMS PROVIDE INSTRUCTION IN HORTICULTURE, THE NATURAL SCIENCES, AND ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP PRACTICES FOR USE IN HOME, SCHOOL, AND COMMUNITY GARDENS. SERVICES FOR PUBLIC SCHOOLS PROVIDE FIELD TRIPS AND OTHER SCIENCE AND HISTORY CURRICULA ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS TO OVER 18,000 STUDENTS ANNUALLY, WITH 70% VISITING FROM TITLE I SCHOOLS (WHERE AT LEAST 40% OF STUDENTS ARE FROM LOW-INCOME FAMILIES).
