Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
UNITED STATES - RESHAPING LIVES AMERICA - 2021 HAS BEEN A TIME OF GREAT GROWTH FOR MISSION PLASTICOS. THE ORGANIZATION EXPANDED RESHAPING LIVES CALIFORNIA TO BECOME RESHAPING LIVES AMERICA. THE PROGRAM PROVIDES RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGICAL CARE TO PEOPLE LIVING IN POVERTY ACROSS THE UNITED STATES. ALSO LAUNCHED WAS RESHAPING LIVES FULL CIRCLE, THE FIRST NATIONWIDE PROGRAM PROVIDING NO-COST BREAST RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERY FOR POST-MASTECTOMY WOMEN LIVING IN POVERTY. THE ENTHUSIASM FOR THESE PROGRAMS IS EVIDENCED BY THE OUTPOURING OF SUPPORT FROM SURGEONS VOLUNTEERING THEIR TIME AND TALENTS. PRIOR TO YEAR-END, WE EXCEEDED OUR GOAL OF ADDING AN ADDITIONAL 50 BOARD-CERTIFIED VOLUNTEER SURGEONS TO OUR RANKS.
KATHMANDU, NEPAL - ACUTE BURN PROGRAM. THE MISSION PLASTICOS TEAM OBSERVATIONS AND EARLY INTERVENTIONS OVER THE PAST FEW YEARS HAD A LARGE IMPACT ON THE DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF AN NIH-SPONSORED EDUCATIONAL AND RESEARCH PROJECT. ALONG WITH OUR NEPALESE COUNTERPARTS, WE IDENTIFIED DELAYED INITIAL FLUID RESUSCITATION AS A SIGNIFICANT NEGATIVE FACTOR CAUSING SEVERE DEHYDRATION AND SHOCK WHEN PATIENTS WERE ADMITTED TO THE HOSPITAL. THE DESIGN AND PROGRESS OF THE PROJECT IS TO INITIATE ORAL RESUSCITATION IMMEDIATELY IN THE RURAL SMALL HOSPITALS OR CLINICS, AND AUGMENT THIS WITH INTRAVENOUS RESUSCITATION TO REACH DEFINED ENDPOINTS. THE PROJECT PROMISES TO MAKE A HUGE POSITIVE LONG-TERM DIFFERENCE IN NEPAL AND HOPEFULLY IMPROVE BURN CARE WORLDWIDE. THE TEAM DID NOT TRAVEL OVERSEAS IN 2021 DUE TO THE PANDEMIC BUT INSTEAD WORKED WITH A RESEARCH FELLOW VIA TELEMEDICINE TO COMPLETE THE ABOVE BURN PROGRAM.
OTHER MISCELLANEOUS SERVICES PERTAINING TO THE ORGANIZATIONS MISSION OF PROVIDING FREE RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERY AND EDUCATING THE PUBLIC ABOUT NEED AND PREVENTION.
