HUMANITARIAN PROGRAMS PRIMARILY IN VIETNAM INCLUDING FINANCIAL AND NUTRITIONAL SUPPORT TO CHILDREN 6 AND UNDER FROM POOR FAMILIES, NUTRITIONAL ASSISTANCE TO SENIORS AND ORPHANAGES, HEALTH AND NUTRITION EDUCATION TO TEACHERS AND PARENTS IN UNDERSERVED AREAS; MEDICINE AND FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO FREE CLINICS SERVING THE POOR; FINANCIAL AND NUTRITIONAL ASSISTANCE TO VICTIMS OF NATURAL DISASTERS; SCHOLARSHIPS TO POOR STUDENTS

PEDIATRIC NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENT PROGRAM (PNSP): PROVIDED NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENTS TO 3154 CHILDREN AS WELL AS NUTRITION AND HEALTH EDUCATION TO THEIR PARENTS AND TEACHERS TO REDUCE THE MALNUTRITION RATE. THE PROGRAM FOCUSES ON UNDERWEIGHT ETHNIC MINORITY CHILDREN 6 AND UNDER AND THEIR CAREGIVERS IN 17 UNDER-SERVED SCHOOLS FROM 8 DISTRICTS IN CENTRAL VIETNAM PROVINCES. THE PROGRAM INCLUDES A SCHOOL BASED COMPONENT WHICH PROVIDES DAILY SOYMILK AND A NUTRIENT DENSE AFTERNOON MEAL AS WELL AS ANTI-PARASITIC MEDICATION AND MICRONUTRIENTS (VIT C, ZINC, IRON). A SECOND COMPONENT OFFERS AT-HOME SUPPORT VIA AN ENHANCED NUTRITION AND HEALTH/HYGIENE EDUCATION PROGRAM OFFERED TO THE PARENTS/CAREGIVERS OF THE PNSP STUDENTS. BULK FOOD SUPPLEMENTS WERE ALSO PROVIDED FOR FAMILIES TO PICKUP. ON AVERAGE, THE MALNUTRITION RATES WERE CHANGED FROM 2% TO -50%, IN THESE CHILDREN FROM SEPT TO MAY, DEPENDING ON THE DISTRICT.


GENERAL HUMANITARIAN PROGRAMS: YEAR LONG NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENTS TO 50 NURSING HOME RESIDENTS AND 100 ORPHANAGE CHILDREN; GRANTS ALSO ALLOWED US TO FUND THE WASH PROJECT IN 2023. THIS PROJECT PROVIDED CONVENIENT, FREE, AND PERMANENT AVAILABILITY OF SAFE WATER FOR DRINKING AND COOKING FOR ALMOST 1,000 STUDENTS, TEACHERS, AND STAFF AT FIVE KINDERGARTENS IN TWO REMOTE DISTRICTS; ASSISTANCE TO FREE MOBILE CLINICS, HOSPITALS AND BUDDHIST ORGANIZATIONS TO IMPROVE THE NUTRITION AND HEALTH OF THE POOR IN THEIR LOCAL COMMUNITIES IN VIETNAM AS WELL AS NUTRITIONAL AND HYGIENE SUPPORT FOR POOR VICTIMS OF NATURAL DISASTERS. THESE PROGRAMS SERVED APPROXIMATELY 1900 FAMILIES OR INDIVIDUALS.
