PEDIATRIC NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENT PROGRAM (PNSP): PROVIDED NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENTS TO 2430 CHILDREN AS WELL AS NUTRITION AND HEALTH EDUCATION TO THEIR PARENTS AND TEACHERS TO REDUCE THE MALNUTRITION RATE. THE PROGRAM FOCUSES ON UNDERWEIGHT ETHNIC MINORITY CHILDREN 6 AND UNDER AND THEIR CAREGIVERS IN 14 UNDER-SERVED SCHOOLS FROM 7 DISTRICTS IN CENTRAL VIETNAM PROVINCES. THE PROGRAM INCLUDES A SCHOOL BASED COMPONENT WHICH PROVIDES DAILY SOYMILK AND A NUTRIENT DENSE AFTERNOON MEAL AS WELL AS ANTI-PARASITIC MEDICATION AND MICRONUTRIENTS (VIT C, ZINC, IRON). A SECOND COMPONENT OFFERS AT-HOME SUPPORT VIA AN ENHANCED NUTRITION AND HEALTH/HYGIENE EDUCATION PROGRAM OFFERED TO THE PARENTS/CAREGIVERS OF THE PNSP STUDENTS. COVID QUARANTINES CONTINUED TO IMPACT NORMAL DAILY DELIVERY OF PROGRAM SUPPLEMENTS AND THE EDUCATION PROGRAM THIS YEAR. INSTEAD, WHEN SCHOOLS WERE CLOSED, BULK FOOD SUPPLEMENTS WERE PROVIDED FOR FAMILIES TO PICKUP. ON AVERAGE, THE MALNUTRITION RATES WERE CHANGED FROM -9% TO -50%, IN THESE CHILDREN FROM SEPT TO MAY, DEPENDING ON THE DISTRICT.
GENERAL HUMANITARIAN PROGRAMS: YEAR LONG NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENTS TO 50 NURSING HOME RESIDENTS AND 100 ORPHANAGE CHILDREN; FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO FREE MOBILE CLINICS AND BUDDHIST ORGANIZATIONS TO IMPROVE THE NUTRITION AND HEALTH OF THE POOR IN THEIR LOCAL COMMUNITIES IN VIETNAM AS WELL AS NUTRITIONAL AND HYGIENE SUPPORT FOR POOR VICTIMS OF NATURAL DISASTERS. THIS YEAR COVID RELIEF IN THE FORM OF FOOD SUPPLEMENTS, SANITIZER AND MASKS WAS ALSO PROVIDED. THESE PROGRAMS SERVED APPROXIMATELY 1600 FAMILIES OR INDIVIDUALS.
