KULTURE KLUB COLLABORATIVE ENGAGES ART AND ARTISTIC PRACTICE TO PROVIDE ENRICHING MULTIDISCIPLINARY OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUTH EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS AND ARTISTS TO GROW INDIVIDUALLY AND TO TRANSFORM COMMUNITY.

HEALTH IS WEALTH THIS PROGRAMMING TOOK PLACE OVER 3 MONTHS WHERE YOUTH TOOK PART IN THERAPEUTIC ARTISTIC ACTIVITIES. THEY SPENT TIME MAKING VISION BOARDS, BODY BUTTERS, FACE SCRUBS, CANDLES, VITAMINS, AND SELF AFFIRMING ART. THEY CREATED MANTRAS AND DEVELOPED SELF CARE PRACTICES THROUGH ART FOR THEMSELVES. WE SERVED 42 YOUTH WITH 24 RETURNING AND 18 NEW YOUTH.
DESIGN YOUR LIFE THIS WAS A PROGRAM WHERE YOUTH LEARNED HOW TO SEW AND DESIGN THEIR OWN CLOTHES. WE CONSISTENTLY HAD 43 YOUTH AND WITH 8 NEW YOUTH JOINING OUR PROGRAMMING. THEY LEARNED HOW TO READ PATTERNS AND HOW TO MAKE CHANGES TO ADD THEIR OWN SIGNATURE TO THE GARMENTS THEY MADE. THIS REALLY EMPOWERED OUR YOUTH TO PUT MORE THOUGHT AND CREATIVITY IN HOW THEY PRESENT THEMSELVES AND WHAT TYPE OF BRAND THEY WANTED TO SHOW THE WORLD GOING FORWARD.
MORE THAN BEADING-NATIVE BEADING NOT ONLY DID YOUTH LEARN HOW TO BEAD BUT THEY LEARNED ABOUT THE NATIVE AMERICAN CULTURE. LED BY TWO NATIVE TEACHING ARTISTS, YOUTH LEARNED THE MEANING BEHIND THE HEADRESSES THAT HAVE ELEMENTS OF BEADING, THE TRADITIONS THAT ARE PRACTICED BY THE TRIBES OF OUR TEACHING ARTISTS, AND WE GOT TO EAT FOOD MADE BY OUR TEACHING ARTISTS. A TOTAL OF 30 YOUTH LEARNED HOW TO BUILD THE LOOMS WE BEADED ON AND THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE BEADING AND WHAT IT REPRESENTS.
