SOMEBODY CARES AMERICA (SCA) PROVIDES RESOURCES FOR RELIEF OF VICTIMS OF PERSONAL CRISIS AND NATURAL DISASTERS. DURING 2021, THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDED: TEXAS WINTER STORM URI THE SOMEBODY CARES DISASTER RESPONSE NETWORK MOBILIZED QUICKLY TO PROVIDE IMMEDIATE HELP TO RESIDENTS IMPACTED BY THE FREEZING TEMPERATURES INFLICTED BY WINTER STORM URI, AS WELL AS RECOVERY ASSISTANCE. FROM SAN ANTONIO AND ABILENE, TO DALLAS, HOUSTON, COUNTIES IN EAST TEXAS AND ALONG THE RIO GRANDE VALLEY WE PROVIDED DRINKING WATER AND HOT MEALS, DISTRIBUTED GROCERIES, ASSISTED WITH PLUMBING SUPPLIES AND VOLUNTEERS TO MAKE MINOR REPAIRS. WE ALSO ASSISTED INDIVIDUALS WHO HAD REDUCED WORK HOURS WITH ESSENTIAL BILLS LIKE RENT AND UTILITIES. IN ADDITION, SOMEBODY CARES REPLACED DAMAGED APPLIANCES FOR SEVERAL SENIORS, SINGLE PARENT FAMILIES AND THOSE NEEDING LONG-TERM MEDICAL CARE. HURRICANE IDA SOMEBODY CARES PARTNERED WITH LOCAL CHURCHES AND ORGANIZATIONS TO PROVIDE IMMEDIATE RELIEF AS WELL AS RECOVERY ASSISTANCE IN IMPACTED COMMUNITIES THROUGHOUT LOUISIANA. WE SERVED OVER 50,000 HOT MEALS; DISTRIBUTED 7 SEMI-LOADS OF WATER, FOOD, CLEANING SUPPLIES AND HYGIENE ITEMS; PROVIDED CHAINSAWS, GENERATORS AND OTHER EQUIPMENT TO VOLUNTEER TEAMS FOR CLEAN-UP; SENT TENTS, COOLERS, COTS, PILLOWS, SOLAR LAMPS AND AND OTHER SUPPLIES FOR FAMILIES REPAIRING HOMES; GAVE COMFORT BEARS TO CHILDREN; HELPED FUND GROCERY DISTRIBUTIONS TO OVER 3,500 FAMILIES IN NEW ORLEANS; AND ASSISTED DAMAGED CHURCHES WITH BUILDING SUPPLIES FOR REPAIRS. AT THANKSGIVING WE ALSO COOKED AND SERVED A HOLIDAY MEAL FOR APPROXIMATELY 2,000 PEOPLE IN SCHRIEVER, LA. QUAD STATE TORNADOS THE SOMEBODY CARES DISASTER RELIEF NETWORK QUICKLY MOBILIZED TO RESPOND TO THE DEVASTATING TORNADOS THAT RIPPED THROUGH KENTUCKY, TENNESEE, ARKANSAS AND MISSOURI. SCA PRIMARILIY FOCUSESD RELIEF EFFORTS IN KENTUCKY AND TENNESSEE. IN BOWLING GREEN, VOLUNTEER TEAMS ASSISTED WITH COMMUNITY CLEAN-UP AND HELPED WITH A CHRISTMAS OUTREACH TO 90 IMPACTED FAMILIES. WE ALSO DELIVERED A SEMI-LOAD OF HYGIENE AND CLEANING ITEMS TO A PARTNER CHURCH FOR DISTRIBUTION. SCA DONATED A SEMI-LOAD OF TOYS AND CHILDREN'S BOOKS FOR THE KENTUCKY STATE POLICE TOY DISTRIBUTION. SCA ALSO PROVIDED NUMEROUS FAMILIES WITH GIFT CARDS SO THEY COULD PURCHASE FUEL FOR GENERATORS AS WELL AS OTHER SPECIAL NEEDS. THE RECOVERY IS ON-GOING AND SOMEBODY CARES CONTINUES TO WORK WITH PARTNERS ON THE GROUND IN THE RECOVERY EFFORTS.
SOMEBODY CARES CONTINUED ONLINE LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES TO PROVIDE SEVENTEEN TRANSFORMING LEADERSHIP SEMINARS. OUR WEEKLY A WORD IN SEASON WITH DOUG STRINGER AND FRIENDS PODCAST CONTINUED WITH WEEKLY EPISODES AVAILABLE ON MOST PODCAST PLATFORMS.
ONGOING SUPPORT FOR SOMEBODY CARES CHAPTERS AND CENTERS CONSISTED OF PHONE AND ZOOM CONFERENCES AS WELL AS BRINGING US LEADERS TOGETHER IN OCTOBER FOR A TIME OF REFLECTION ON LESSONS LEARNED DURING THE COVID CRISIS, SHARING BEST PRACTICES, STRATEGIC PLANNING AND EQUIPPING, SOMEBODY CARES CURRENTLY HAS 3 ACTIVE INTERNATIONAL CHAPTERS, 12 ACTIVE US CHAPTERS AND 2 ACTIVE US CENTERS.
