TO PROVIDE CULTURALLY SPECIFIC PSYCHOLOGICAL TREATMENT, PREVENTION AND SOCIAL SERVICES TO PREVENT, TREAT AND ELIMINATE SUBSTANCE ABUSE AND VIOLENCE IN CENTRAL OHIO

TREATMENT SERVICES: ALCOHOL AND OTHER DRUG TREATMENT SERVICES. CULTURALLY RELEVANT GENDER SPECIFIC 12 WEEK OUTPATIENT PROGRAM FOR ADULTS. APDS OFFERS BOTH INTENSIVE AND NON INTENSIVE TREATMENT. REFERRALS TO RESIDENTIAL, MENTAL HEALTH AND OTHER COMMUNITY SERVICES ARE MADE BASED ON CLIENT NEED.


PREVENTION SERVICES: SUMMER CAMP; APDS OFFERS A SUMMER DAY CAMP PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN AGES 6-12. APDS PROVIDES YOUTH WITH INSTRUCTION ON AOD AND VIOLENCE PREVENTION, REFUSAL AND COPING SKILLS, CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT, AND ACADEMIC SUPPORT. DOMESTIC VIOLENCE EDUCATION PROGRAM; APDS OFFERS A PROGRAM FOR MALE DOMESTIC VIOLENCE OFFENDERS. REFERRALS ARE MADE FROM THE COURT SYSTEM AND OTHER COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION. THE PROGRAM UTILIZES THE DULUTH DOMESTIC VIOLENCE PROGRAM MODEL. PARTICIPANTS ARE EDUCATED ON DYNAMICS OF THE POWER AND CONTROL WHEEL TO LEARN HEALTHY WAYS OF EXPRESSING THEMSELVES. UNIFIED COMMUNITY AND NEIGHBORHOOD NETWORK (UCANN) IS DEDICATED TO ADDRESSING THE GROWING CONCERN OF YOUTH INVOLVED VIOLENCE IN COLUMBUS, OHIO. UCANN PROVIDES YOUTH AGES 11-24 WITH THE NECESSARY TOOLS TO BECOME CHAMPIONS OF NONVIOLENCE, WITH THE ULTIMATE GOAL OF CREATING VIBRANT, SAFE AND INNOVATIVE COMMUNITIES THROUGH SOCIAL INTERVENTION AND CONNECTION TO RESOURCES. THE URBAN GEMS (GARDENING ENTREPRENEURS MOTIVATING SUSTAINABILITY) PROGRAM UTILIZES AEROPONIC FOOD PRODUCTION AS A VEHICLE TO ENRICH THE LIVES AND LEARNING OF THE YOUNG PEOPLE IN THE PROGRAM THROUGH PROJECT-BASED LEARNING AROUND SCIENTIFIC DISCOVERY, MATH LESSONS, HISTORICAL ANALYSIS, NUTRITIONAL PRINCIPLES, CONSUMER SCIENCE EDUCATION AND THE CREATIVE AND LANGUAGE ARTS. URBAN GEMS IS A YOUTH (AGES 11-19 YRS.) DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE DESIGNED TO REDUCE HIGH SCHOOL DROPOUT RATES BY ENRICHING THE SCIENCE, HEALTH, PERSONAL AND CAREER DEVELOPMENT CURRICULAR OFFERINGS FOR YOUTH AND COMMUNITIES AT HIGH RISK OF POVERTY.
