THE MISSION OF THE UNITED WAY OF FAIRFIELD COUNTY IS TO IMPROVE LIVES BY MOBILIZING THE CARING POWER OF OUR COMMUNITY. UNITED WAY'S STRENGTH IS ITS ABILIITY TO BUILD PARTNERSHIPS AND TO LEVERAGE RESOURCES TO MAKE A MEASURABLE DIFFERENCE IN THE FAIRFIELD COUNTY COMMUNITY. USING THESE STRENGTHS, THE UNITED WAY HAS SET BOLD GOALS TO DELIVER SOLUTIONS TO COMMUNITY ISSUES IN THE AREAS OF EDUCATION, HEALTH, AND FINANCIAL STABILITY. PARTNERING WITH 23 FAIRFIELD COUNTY HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICE AGENCIES, THE UNITED WAY HAS ALLOCATED FUNDS TO OVER 30 PROGRAMS THAT PROVIDE SERVICES TO ASSIST INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES IN OUR COMMUNITY OVERCOME OBSTACLES TO ACCESS EDUCATION, IMPROVE THEIR HEALTH, AND WORK TOWARDS FINANCIAL STABILITY.
THE UNITED WAY OF FAIRFIELD COUNTY OFFERS FREE TAX PREPARATION FOR LOW TO MODERATE INCOME INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES THROUGH OUR VOLUNTEER INCOME TAX ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (VITA). OUR VITA SITE PROVIDED FREE TAX PREPARATION FOR MORE THAN 1,010 INDIVIDUALS OR FAMILIES DURING THE 2021 TAX SEASON. IN ADDITION, OUR TAX COUNSELING FOR ELDERLY (TCE) SITE, WHICH OFFERS FREE TAX PREPARATION FOR ANYONE OVER THE AGE OF 60, PREPARED OVER 186 TAX RETURNS DURING 2021. BOTH SITES UTILIZE IRS CERTIFIED VOLUNTEERS TO PREPARE AND FILE THE RETURNS. CLIENTS RECEIVED A TOTAL OF 627,000 IN REFUNDS. UNITED WAY OF FAIRFIELD COUNTY ALSO PROVIDED ASSISTANCE TO HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES FILLING OUT THE FASFA. 8 LOCAL HIGH SCHOOLS PARTNERED WITH UNITED WAY TO SET UP FASFA PREPARATION SESSIONS WHERE UNITED WAY STAFF ASSISTED IN COMPLETING THE APPLICATION PROCESS.
THE UNITED WAY OF FAIRFIELD COUNTY, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE OHIO GOVERNOR'S IMAGINATION LIBRARY AND THE DOLLY PARTON'S IMAGINATION LIBRARY, IS WORKING TO IMPROVE THE KINDERGARTEN READINESS OF OUR COMMUNITY BY FURNISHING BOOKS TO OVER 3,400 PRESCHOOL AGED CHILDREN IN FAIRFIELD COUNTY EACH MONTH.
UNITED WAY OF FAIRFIELD COUNTY ORGANIZES AND FACILITATES THE FEEDING OUR FUTURE PROGRAM ON A MONTHLY BASIS THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL YEAR. THE PROGRAM IS PRIMARILY FOR LOCAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS ON THE FREE & REDUCED LUNCH PROGRAM. REGISTERED STUDENTS RECEIVED A PACKAGE OF FOOD TO TAKE HOME ONCE A MONTH. THE PACKAGE INCLUDES A VARIETY OF CHOICES TO GET THE STUDENT THROUGH THE WEEKEND AND USUALLY WEIGHS ABOUT EIGHT POUNDS. CURRENTLY THE PROGRAM EXISTS IN 10 FAIRFIELD COUNTY ELEMENTARY, PRIMARY, OR PRESCHOOLS SERVING OVER 678 STUDENTS EACH MONTH FOR 9 MONTHS. BAGS SENT HOME WITH STUDENTS CONSIST OF APPROXIMATLEY SIX MEALS TO GET STUDENTS THROUGH THE WEEKEND. THE UNITED WAY OF FAIRFIELD COUNTY PROVIDES A CAREER CLOSET TO ASSIST INDIVIDUALS WITH APPROPRIATE CLOTHING TO GO TO AN INTERVIEW OR TO START A JOB. THE CLOTHING IS DONATED BY THE COMMUNITY AND HELPS INDIVIDUALS HAVE CONFIDENCE WHILE INTERVIEWING OR STARTING A JOB.
