YAMA UTILIZES A RIGOROUS MODEL OF ENSEMBLE-BASED MUSIC EDUCATION WITH DUAL EMPHASES ON MUSICAL LITERACY AND ACTIVE COMMUNITY BUILDING IN NEIGHBORHOODS WITH GREATEST BARRIERS TO ACCESSING HIGH QUALITY AFTER SCHOOL OPPORTUNITIES. 84 STUDENTS, AGES 8 TO 17, PARTICIPATED DAILY IN COHORT-BASED IN-PERSON PROGRAMMING IN THE 22-23 ACADEMIC YEAR, AND 12 PROGRAM ALUMNI WERE ACTIVELY INVOLVED IN ROLES IN THE ORGANIZATION, INCLUDING AS PAID STAFF. YAMA BUILDS MUSICAL LEADERSHIP AS WELL AS ACADEMIC AND SOCIAL SKILLS FOR ALL YOUNG PEOPLE INVOLVED, AT NO COST TO STUDENTS AND FAMILIES. IN ADDITION TO DAILY PROGRAMMING, YAMA OFFERS HIGHER EDUCATION ACCESS COACHING AND SCHOLARSHIPS TO GRADUATING SENIORS AND ALUMNI, AND RUNS AN ACTIVE ASSISTANT TEACHER PROGRAM.
