OUR CHESAPEAKE ORCHESTRA PROVIDED FREE SUMMER CONCERTS BY THE ONLY PROFESSIONAL SYMPHONIC ORCHESTRA IN SOUTHERN MARYLAND. CONCERTS ARE ATTENDED BY 20,000 CONCERTGOERS ANNUALLY. WE HELPED BUILD COMMUNITY, AIDED IN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT, AND ENHANCED THE QUALITY OF LIFE IN OUR REGION. WE WERE AWARDED BY TWO MARYLAND GOVERNORS (1 DEMOCRATIC AND 1 REPUBLICAN) FOR OUR ACTIVITY DEVELOPING CULTURAL ACTIVITY AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT. THIS SEASON THE CHESAPEAKE ORCHESTRA SERIES IS IN ITS 25TH ANNIVERSARY SEASON AND HAS PERFORMED FOR HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF CONCERTGOERS. OUR MARYLAND YOUTH SYMPHONY PROVIDES AUTHENTIC, RIGOROUS ORCHESTRAL TRAINING, AND OF COURSE, CULMINATING IN SEVERAL CONCERTS EACH SEASON FOR A LARGE ENSEMBLE OF WONDERFULLY DIVERSE ASPIRING MUSICIANS. MANY OF OUR STUDENTS GO ON TO IMPORTANT MUSIC CONSERVATORIES AND MUSIC SCHOOLS. WE HAVE AN IMPRESSIVE RECORD OF THOSE STUDENTS GOING ON TO PLAY PROFESSIONALLY. WITH OUR PROGRAM, THE WHOLE FAMILY BECOMES ENGAGED IN THIS ART FORM. OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH THE ALBA MUSIC FESTIVAL BASED IN NORTHERN ITALY, CELEBRATES ITS 20TH ANNIVERSARY THIS SPRING. THE FESTIVAL EXPOSES COLLEGE STUDENTS, AND SOME ADVANCED YOUNGER STUDENTS TO INTERNATIONAL PERFORMING, AND PROVIDES THE OPPORTUNITY FOR AMERICAN PROFESSIONAL PLAYERS TOO
