IT IS OUR MISSION TO SUPPORT AND ENGENDER EDUCATION AND RESEARCH INTO THE MOST SUSTAINABLE FARMING PRACTICES TO FEED OUR ISLAND'S ISOLATED POPULATION WHILE SEQUESTERING CARBON TO HELP REDUCE GLOBAL WARMING AND CREATE SOILS AND FARMING PRACTICES THAT WILL SUPPORT FOOD PRODUCTION FOR GENERATIONS TO COME BOTH ON AGRICULTURAL LAND AND IN FAMILY GARDENS AND ORCHARDS

OHANA GARDENS IS A COUNTY-WIDE BACKYARD GARDEN INITIATIVE TO PROVIDE MATERIALS, AND SUPPORT NEEDED TO HELP HOUSEHOLDS GROW AN INCREASING AMOUNT OF FOR THEIR HOUSEHOLDS AND NEIGHBORS, AS A KEY STRATEGY FOR LONG-TERM FOOD SECURITY, SAVING MONEY, AND LEARNING NEW SKILLS. IN THE YEAR 2021 WE SET UP AROUND 40 GARDENS AND SEVERAL CLASSES WHICH WERE ATTENDED BY UP TO 200 PEOPLE. WE ALSO PRINTED A BOOKLET ABOUT FOOD GROWTH ON THE ISLANDS.
NUI LANI FARM KILAUEA DISASTER RECOVERY IS A PROJECT THAT WILL HELP TO RESTORE A THRIVING FARM (NUI LANI FARM) WITH GRADING, FENCING, GREENHOUSE RESTORATION, ROAD ACCESS, AND CROP RESTORATION. THE SPONSORING NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION IS FOOD SECURITY HAWAII. THE GRANTOR (COUNTY OF HAWAII) REIMBURSES THE SPONSORING ORGANIZATION FOR EXPENSES INCURRED UP TO THE ALLOCATED GRANT OF $350K.
