THE MISSION OF THE CHARCOAL PROJECT IS TO PROMOTE, FACILITATE, AND ADVOCATE FOR THE WIDESPREAD ADOPTION OF CLEAN BURNING TECHNOLOGIES, SUSTAINABLE FUEL ALTERNATIVES, AND POLICIES THAT SUPPORT ENERGY-POVERTY ALLEVIATION FOR THOSE WHO DEPEND ON BIOMASS AS THEIR PRIMARY FUEL AROUND THE WORLD.

THE HARVEST FUEL INITIATIVE (HFI) IS AN IMPACT-DRIVEN PROGRAM DEVELOPED BY THE CHARCOAL PROJECT. HFI PROVIDES ALTERNATIVE FUEL PRODUCERS WITH TRAINING, MENTORSHIP, FINANCIAL SUPPORT, TECHNICAL SUPPORT, ONLINE RESOURCES AND ACCESS TO A NETWORK OF ENTREPRENEURS. THE LATEST COHORT OF HFI ENTREPRENEURS WAS COMPLETED AT THE END OF 2021, SO THERE WERE ONLY MINIMAL EXPENSES FOR THE PROGRAM IN 2022, AS WE PLAN FOR OUR NEXT COHORT IN 2023.
BIOMASS FUEL RESEARCH - IN 2022, WE WORKED ON COMPLETING A RESEARCH PROJECT THAT WAS FUNDED IN 2021 THAT EXAMINED THE CONDUCIVENESS OF 31 AFRICAN NATIONS TO SUSTAINABLE CHARCOAL POLICIES. THE SUBSEQUENT REPORT WAS PUBLISHED IN EARLY 2023. ADDITIONALLY, A STUDY OF THE LIVELIHOODS EARNED BY SUSTAINABLE FUEL PRODUCERS WAS STARTED IN IN 2022.
