THE BELIEVE AND ACHIEVE PROGRAMS AT THE YMCA AND CHESTER COUNTY FAMILY ACADEMY ARE AFTER SCHOOL & SUMMER CAMP PROGRAMS FOR AT-RISK, LOW-INCOME CHILDRENS AGES 5-15 WHO ARE LACKING A SUPPORT SYSTEM. THE PROGRAMS TAKE PLACE AT THE OSCAR LASKO YOUTH PROGRAM CENTER IN WEST CHESTER, PA AND THE BRANDYWINE YMCA IN COATESVILLE, PA. THE BELIEVE AND ACHIEVE PROGRAMS PROVIDE ACCESS TO HIGH QUALITY, SAFE,SUPERVISED ENRICHMENT AFTER SCHOOL AND DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS FOR NO COST.
THE BELIEVE AND ACHIEVE BACKPACK BUDDY PROGRAM PROVIDES FOOD FOR CHILDREN. EVERY WEEKEND, THERE ARE CHILDREN THAT GO HOME HUNGRY. REALIZING THE VITAL ROLE THAT FOOD AND NUTRITION PLAY IN A CHILD'S PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEVELOPMENT, THE BACKPACK BUDDY PROGRAM INSURES THAT THESE CHILDREN HAVE ACCESS TO FOOD AND NUTRITION BY PROVIDING A BACKPACK OF NUTRITIONAL ITEMS THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL YEAR. LAST YEAR, WE HELPED PROVIDE OVER 42,000 BACKPACKS TO OVER 1,000 DIFFERENT FAMILIES THROUGHOUT THE COUNTY.
THE BELIEVE AND ACHIEVE VALOR BOWL SUPPORTS THE SPECIAL OLYMPICS. THE VALOR BOWL IS AN ALL-STAR GAME SHOWCASING THE BEST SENIOR FOOTBALL PLAYERS FROM CHESTER COUNTY, PA. PROCEEDS FROM THE GAME BENEFITS THE SPECIAL OLYMPICS. THE VALOR BOWL CONTINUES TO BE THE LEADING SUPPORTER OF THE SPECIAL OLYMPICS OF CHESTER COUNTY. THIS ORGANIZATION PROVIDES CHILDREN AND ADULTS WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES THE OPPORTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE IN SPORTS TRAINING AND ATHLETIC COMPETITIONS. THE ATHLETES DEVELOP PHYSICAL FITNESS, DEMONSTRATE COURAGE, EXPERIENCE JOY, AND SHARE IN THE SPIRIT OF COMPETITION WITH OTHER ATHLETES.
