SEE SCHEDULE OWE ACCOMPLISH THESE GOALS THROUGH OUR PROGRAMS, WHICH COMBINED, HAVE SERVED 90,000 GIRLS DURING THIS FISCAL YEAR. THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR AND THE BOARD HAVE WORKED ON SOLIDIFYING OUR PROGRAMS AND CONTINUE TO REFINE THEM. OUR CURRENT PROGRAMS ARE:GIRLSPRING.COM: OUR MOBILE WEBSITE AND ONLINE COMMUNITY PROVIDES MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL-AGED GIRLS WITH ACCESS TO RELIABLE AND DEVELOPMENTALLY-APPROPRIATE ARTICLES, INFORMATION, AND RESOURCES; RELEVANT NEWS; GIRL-RELATED COMMUNITY EVENTS; AND SOCIAL INTERACTION IN A SAFE ENVIRONMENT THAT GIVES GIRLS AND YOUNG WOMEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE INDEPENDENT, SOUND CHOICES AND WISE DECISIONS. PARTICIPANTS BENEFIT BY BUILDING THEIR DIGITAL PORTFOLIO, INTERACTING WITH GIRLS FROM ACROSS THE COUNTRY, DEVELOPING HEALTHY PEER TO PEER RELATIONSHIPS, AND DEVELOPING CONFIDENCE AND SELF-ESTEEM BY EXPRESSING THEMSELVES THROUGH ESSAY, POETRY AND ART ABOUT ISSUES THEY ARE PASSIONATE ABOUT AND ARE RELEVANT TO TODAY'S YOUNG WOMEN. GIRLS ALSO HAVE ACCESS TO ACCURATE INFORMATION ON "TOUGH TOPICS" SUCH AS BULLYING, DRUG AND ALCOHOL ABUSE, AND TEEN PREGNANCY PREVENTION, JUST TO NAME A FEW. SPRINGBOARDERS: (TEEN LEADERSHIP GROUP). WE DEVELOPED AND LAUNCHED THIS GROUP OFFICIALLY IN SUMMER 2016. GIRLS WERE RECRUITED FORM A VARIETY OF SCHOOLS. TWENTY GIRLS FROM A VARIETY OF SCHOOLS IN THE BIRMINGHAM AREA MEET MONTHLY TO DISCUSS RELEVANT ISSUES THEY'D LIKE TO SEE ADDRESSED ON WWW.GIRLSPRING.COM, AND ARE TASKED WITH CREATING CONTENT FOR THE SITE TO ADDRESS THOSE ISSUES. GIRLS ALSO HAVE SPECIAL ACCESS TO FEMALE MENTORS THAT SERVE AS GUEST SPEAKERS AT THEIR MEETINGS AND OFFER GUIDANCE ON A VARIETY OF CAREERS. SPRINGBOARDERS HELP SUPPORT ONE ANOTHER AS THEY NAVIGATE THE TEEN YEARS, AND LEARN THE VALUE OF SERVING COMMUNITY BY VOLUNTEERING AS A GROUP. IN THE PAST 12 MONTHS, GIRLS HAVE TAKEN ON MORE LEADERSHIP ROLES AND HAVE SOME HAVE BEEN GIVEN ACCESS TO THE BACKEND OF THE WEBSITE WHERE THEY HAVE LEARNED SOME MINOR CODING SKILLS AND WORDPRESS NAVIGATION. ALSO THIS YEAR, THE SPRINGBOARDERS INCREASED THEIR COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER PROJECTS TO INCLUDE A HABITAT FOR HUMANITY PROJECT, A DINNER SERVICE AT A LOCAL WOMEN'S SHELTER, AND A VOLUNTEER SESSION AT CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL.GATHERINGS: THIS ONGOING PROGRAM CONSISTS OF AN ANNUAL SERIES OF EVENTS FOR GIRLS THAT SUPPORTS EMPOWERMENT AND LIFE SKILLS DEVELOPMENT AND PROMOTES OVERALL HEALTH AND WELLNESS. THIS YEAR WE OFFERED A STEM FAIR FOR GIRLS IN MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL (BUILDING ON THE SUCCESS OF THE 2017 STEM FAIR), AND DURING THIS FISCAL YEAR WE SCREENED TWO FILMS - SHE STARTED IT; A FILM ABOUT WOMEN PURSUING TECH CAREERS, AND IRON JAWED ANGELS; A FILM ABOUT THE SUFFRAGIST MOVEMENT STARRING HILARY SWANK. BOTH FILMS INCLUDED POST-FILM DISCUSSIONS AND Q & A. INTERNSHIPS: GIRLSPRING HAS DEVELOPED A STRONG INTERNSHIP PROGRAM THIS YEAR, OFFERING FEMALE COLLEGE STUDENTS THE OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN VALUABLE SKILLS SUCH AS EDITING AND GRAPHIC DESIGN ON A WORDPRESS SITE, SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGEMENT, YOUTH PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT FOR GIRLS, AND A HANDS ON-APPROACH TO LEARNING ABOUT NON-PROFIT INFRASTRUCTURE. COLLEGE STUDENTS WITH A PASSION FOR EMPOWERING GIRLS ARE NOW REACHING OUT TO OUR ORGANIZATION TO REQUEST INTERNSHIPS, SO MUCH SO THAT WE NO LONGER HAVE TO RECRUIT. AS A RESULT, WE HAVE DEVELOPED STRONG RELATIONSHIPS WITH TWO LOCAL COLLEGES -- THE UAB ENGLISH DEPARTMENT FACULTY AND BIRMINGHAM- SOUTHERN COLLEGE. IN 2018, WE HAVE GROWN OUR INTERNSHIP PROGRAM TO INCLUDE INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS - WE HAVE HAD AN INTERN WORKING REMOTELY FROM INDIA AND A POTENTIAL INTERN FROM EGYPT. WE HAVE ALSO ENGAGED 2 VENTURE FOR AMERICA FELLOWS WHO HAVE BEEN WORKING WITH US ON A VOLUNTEER BASIS, IN ADDITION TO 11 REGULAR INTERNS.
