THE MEDICINELOUISIANA REGISTERED LOBBYIST WILL LOBBY THE LEGISLATIVE AND EXECUTIVE BRANCHES TO INFLUENCE MATTERS AFFECTING THE PROMOTION AND PROTECTION OF THE PRACTICE OF MEDICINE AND TO ENHANCE AND IMPROVE THE PUBLIC IMAGE OF THE MEDICAL PROFESSION. MEDICINELOUISIANA STAFF (HIRED 3/1/10) HAS REGISTERED TO LOBBY ON BEHALF OF THE COMPANY AND HAS BEGUN MEETING WITH OFFICIALS.THE MEMBERSHIP WILL ESTABLISH AND THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR WILL STAFF TOPIC AREA LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEES TO COMMUNICATE THE ASSOCIATION'S ATTITUDES TO STATE GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS ON ISSUES GERMANE TO ITS MEMBERS' PROFESSIONAL INTERESTS SUCH AS INSURANCE REGULATORY ISSUES, MEDICARE AND MEDICAID LEGISLATION, CREDENTIALING PROCESSES, AND COMPULSORY HEALTH CARE LEGISLATION. THIS ACTIVITY IS CURRENTLY UNDERWAY. THROUGH THIS EDUCATION PROCESS, MEDICINELOUISIANA ANTICIPATES THAT MEMBERS WILL BE MORE INFORMED OF THE LEGISLATIVE PROCESS AND ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN EDUCATING LAW MAKERS ON THE BUSINESS CONCERNS OF THE PRACTICE OF MEDICINE.
THE ORGANIZATION WILL SERVE AS THE AUTHORITATIVE RESOURCE AND INFORMATION EXCHANGE FOR MEMBERS BY PROVIDING EDUCATION ON LEGISLATIVE AND REGULATORY ISSUES OF CONCERN TO THEIR PRACTICE. MEMBERS WILL BE PROVIDED PEER EDUCATION, AS WELL AS OUTSIDE SOURCE INFORMATION TO THIS EFFECT. MEDICINELOUISIANA IS CREATING THEIR LEGISLATIVE AGENDA, AND MEMBER MEETINGS BEGAN IN MARCH 2010. STAFF WILL FACILITATE MEETINGS AND NETWORK OPPORTUNITIES FOR MEMBERS TO MEET LIKE MINDED PROFESSIONALS AND LEVERAGE THEIR COLLECTIVE KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE.
