OUR MISSION IS TO ENGAGE AND PARTNER WITH CULTURALLY AND LINGUISTICALLY DIVERSE INDIVIDUALS WITH DEVELOPMENTAL/INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES AND THEIR FAMILIES. WE USE A CULTURAL BROKERAGE MODEL TO NAVIGATE SERVICES, PROVIDE SPECIALIZED PROGRAMMING, AND ADVOCATE FOR SYSTEMS CHANGE.

EARLY LEARNING PROGRAM: THIS PROGRAM PARTNERS WITH ETHNIC MINORITY PARENTS WHO HAVE CHILDREN WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES AND SPECIAL HEALTH CARE NEEDS IN PROMOTING AND SUPPORTING THE SOCIO-EMOTIONAL, COGNITIVE AND LANGUAGE, AND PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT DURING THEIR EARLY LEARNING YEARS (AGES 0 6), SO THAT BY KINDERGARTEN THEIR CHILDREN WILL HAVE THE SKILL SET TO FUNCTION, ACCESS AND ENGAGE IN THEIR HOMES, SCHOOLS, AND COMMUNITIES. THROUGH THIS PARTNERSHIP, PARENTS WILL GAIN KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, AND CONFIDENCE TO ADVOCATE FOR THEIR OWN CHILD AND BECOME A CONTRIBUTING MEMBER OF ONES COMMUNITY. THIS PROGRAM ALSO PROVIDES PARENT SUPPORT GROUPS AND HOME VISITS, AND PARTNERS WITH OTHER EARLY INTERVENTION AGENCIES TO BRIDGE GAPS IN ACCESS FOR DIVERSE FAMILIES, AND TO PREVENT CHILDREN FALLING THROUGH THE CRACKS AS THEY TRANSITION TO SCHOOL. IN 2021 THIS PROGRAM SERVED 398 PARENTS OF CHILDREN AGES 0-6 WITH DISABILITIES.
FAMILY SUPPORT SERVICES & COMMUNITY PARENT RESOURCE CENTER (OSEP, KCDDD, CITY OF KENT, PAVE): THIS PROGRAM SUPPORTS DIVERSE FAMILIES OF LOVED ONES WITH DEVELOPMENTAL AND INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES TO NAVIGATE DISABILITIES SYSTEMS AND APPLY FOR SERVICES SUCH AS DDA, SSI, SPECIAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS, ETC. OF WHICH THEY MAY NOT BE AWARE. IN ADDITION TO THIS ONE-ON-ONE, INDIVIDUALIZED SUPPORT PROVIDED IN THE FAMILIES OWN LANGUAGES, THIS PROGRAM OFFERS EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOPS, PARENT SUPPORT GROUPS, AND FUN FAMILY EVENTS. IN 2021 THIS PROGRAM SERVED 982 HOUSEHOLDS FOR A TOTAL OF 2454 PEOPLE.
COVID-19 EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE: THIS SERVICE WAS DEVELOPED IN RESPONSE TO THE EMERGENT NEEDS OF CULTURALLY AND LINGUISTICALLY DIVERSE FAMILIES OF LOVED ONES WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. FROM MARCH-DECEMBER 2020 WE ASSISTED OVER 600 HOUSEHOLDS.
