Describe the Organization's Mission:
Part 3 - Line 1
ROSES FOR AUTISM IS A LOCAL HORICULTURE BUSINESS WITH A PROFOUND SOCIAL MISSION, TO PREPARE ADULTS WITH AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDERS FOR THE WORKFORCE WITH HANDS-ON, CLASSROOM AND ON-THE-JOB TRAINING AND HELPING THEM OBTAIN THEIR FIRST JOB. IT'S THE FLAGSHIP INITIATIVE OF GROWING POSSIBLITIES, A NON-PROFIT FOUNDED BY ABILITY BEYOND DISABILITY, INC. IN 2009.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
ROSES FOR AUTISM: ROSES FOR AUTISM ADDRESSES A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE PEOPLE ON THE AUTISM SPECTRUM WITH EMPLOYMENT SKILLS DEVELOPMENT AND TRAINING BY PROVIDING CAUSE-BASED FLORAL PRODUCTS TO CONSUMERS. THE SUCCESS WE DEMONSTRATE WITH ASD EMPLOYMENT TRAINING IN THIS SETTING WILL SERVE AS A FLAGSHIP FOR REPLICATING THE MODEL'S BEST PRACTICES. OUR VISION IS THAT ROSES FOR AUTISM WILL SERVE AS AN AUTISM TRAINING AND EMPLOYMENT MODEL THAT CAN BE REPLICATED IN VARIOUS BUSINESS SETTINGS. ROSES FOR AUTISM RELIES HEAVILY ON PHILANTHROPY AND ROSE SALES TO KEEP THE TRAINING PROGRAM RUNNING. DURING 2018, VANDALISM DESTROYED THE NEW SENSORY GARDEN THAT HAD BEEN DESIGNED AS A PLACE OF BEAUTY AND DISCOVERY. THE GARDEN IS BOTH THERAPEUTIC AND EDUCATIONAL FOR A VARIETY OF INDIVIDUALS, PARTICULARLY THOSE WITH DISABILITIES WHOSE SENSORY RESPONSES ARE IMPACTED. CHILDREN AND ADULTS WITH AUTISM AND OTHER SENSORY PROCESSING DISORDERS COULD RELAX, REFLECT, AND FEEL COMFORTABLE IN EXPLORING THEIR SENSES IN A WELCOMING ENVIROMENT. PROUDLY, IT IS REPORTED THAT THE HEARTBREAKING IMPACT OF THE VANDALISM WAS SHORTLIVED. WITH THE HELP OF THREE DOZEN VOLUNTEERS, AS WELL AS THE GUILFORD BOY SCOUT TROOP 472, OUR CHERISHED GARDEN HAS BEEN REBUILT. THE NEW DESIGN FEATURES GARDEN BEDS DEDICATED TO THE SENSES OF SIGHT, SMELL, SOUND, TASTE, TOUCH AS WELL AS A LABYRINTH ALL TO STIMULATE THE SENSE BALANCE AND INTROSPECTION. WE ALSO HAVE A GAZEBO FOR GUESTS TO RELAX AND ENJOY THE BEAUTY OF THE GARDEN. A CARING COMMUNITY OF VOLUNTEERS AND DONORS WHO DEEPLY VALUE THE GARDEN'S IMPACT ON THE REGION MADE THE REBUILT SENSORY GARDEN A REALITY, AND ABILITY BEYOND IS SO DEEPLY GRATEFUL FOR THEIR KINDNESS.
