RESCUE AND REHABILITATE ABUSED, NEGLECTED, ABANDONED, UNWANTED, AND/OR SLAUGHTER-BOUND ANIMALS PRIMARILY EQUINES (WILD AND DOMESTIC);TO PROVIDE FOOD, SHELTER, CARE AND VETERINARY CARE, TO UTILIZE A STRATEGIC PROCESS FOR MATCHING HEALTHY, REHABILITATED ANIMALS WITH COMPATIBLE, LOVING HOMES; PROVIDE LONG-TERM FOR UNADOPTABLE ANIMALS; AND TO EDUCATE ABOUT THE PLIGHT OF HORSES.

AAE'S RELOCATED OPERATIONS FROM EL DORADO HILLS TO PILOT HILL END OF 2021/2022; 2022 WAS A TRANSITIONAL YEAR FOR SETTING UP EQUIPMENT AND ONGOING FACILITY IMPROVEMENTS WITH ADDED CROSS-FENCING FOR ADDITIONAL PADDOCKS, HOUSING AREAS, DRAINAGE IMPROVEMENTS, AND RELATED EXPENSES FOR FACILITY/HOUSING, AND CARE PROGRAMS FOR THE BENEFIT OF OUR HORSES AND OTHER ANIMALS.


AAE'S HEALTH CARE PROGRAM PROVIDED FOR 70 AAE HORSES/DONKEYS, FOUR COWS, TWO PIGS, A TORTOISE, AND A GOOSE, AS NEEDED UPON INTAKE, FOR SPECIAL CASES, SURGICAL NEEDS, AND MAINTENANCE CARE DURING THE YEAR INCLUDING COSTS FOR VETERINARY, DENTAL, AND HOOF CARE, PRESCRIPTIONS, OTHER MEDICATIONS, FIRST AID SUPPLIES, OTHER HEALTH CARE SUPPLIES, HEALTH CARE-RELATED TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT, AND TRANSPORTATION TO/FROM VET. COLLABORATED WITH VETERINARIANS, HOOF AND DENTAL CARE PROVIDERS. AAE SUPPORTED THREE HORSES ASSOCIATED WITH LAW ENFORCEMENT CASES.


AAE'S NUTRITIONAL PROGRAM INCLUDED REFEEDING PROGRAMS, MAINTENANCE FEED, AND SUPPLEMENTS FOR THE 70 HORSES/DONKEYS, FOUR COWS, TWO PIGS, A TORTOISE, AND A GOOSE, OVER THE COURSE OF THE YEAR. AAE BEGAN THE YEAR WITH 53 HORSES/DONKEYS IN THE PROGRAM. OVER THE COURSE OF THE YEAR 15 NEW HORSES, TWO NEW DONKEYS, A GOOSE, AND A COW WERE ADMITTED. OVER THE COURSE OF THE YEAR, 11 HORSES (FIVE MUSTANGS) WERE ADOPTED. SIX HORSES AND TWO DONKEYS WERE EUTHANIZED, ALL DUE TO SEVERE INJURY, SEVERE HEALTH ISSUES, OR POOR QUALITY OF LIFE ISSUES.
