SENIOR ARTS SERIES EVENTS AT THEATRE MEMPHIS WERE CANCELLED IN THE FIRST PART OF 2021 DUE TO COVID, BUT RETURNED IN FALL 2021 WITH 6 EVENTS ATTENDED BY OVER 750 PEOPLE.SENIOR STUDIO COURSES CONTINUED TO BE ENORMOUSLY POPULAR IN 2021, FREQUENTLY FILLING 24 HOURS AFTER REGISTRATION OPENS. 60 COURSES WERE OFFERED IN 2021, WITH OVER 360 HOURS OF PROFESSIONAL ARTS INSTRUCTION, EMPLOYING MORE THAN 20 ARTISTS AND/OR ARTS ORGANIZATIONS. THESE COURSES, THEN AND NOW, ACTIVATE SENIOR PARTICIPANTS' CREATIVE CAPACITY, BUILD COMMUNITY AND REDUCE THE NEGATIVE HEALTH CONSEQUENCES OF SOCIAL ISOLATION. AN ART SHOW IN SEPTEMBER 2021 HIGHLIGHTED THE VALUE OF THE PROGRAM, SHOWCASING PARTICIPANTS ORIGINAL PIECES AT THEATRE MEMPHIS. 2021 WAS A YEAR MARKED BY A HIGH LEVEL OF PARTICIPATION AND STRONG PROGRAM SUCCESS, EVEN WITH THE LINGERING IMPACT OF COVID.
