MUSEUM: AFTER REOPENING TO THE PUBLIC JULY 8, 2020 WITH COVID PROTOCOLS IN PLACE, THE CENTER WELCOMED OVER 18,000 VISITORS THROUGH ITS DOORS TO TAKE SELF-GUIDED, SOCIALLY DISTANCED TOURS OF ITS SILVER LEED-CERTIFIED WORLDS OF PUPPETRY MUSEUM. THEMED POP-UP EXHIBITS WITH FAN-FAVORITES LIKE THE ATLANTA BRAVES BLOOPER, EMMET OTTER, AND SALEM THE CAT GREETED PATRONS IN THE ATRIUM THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. THE AWARD-WINNING SPECIAL EXHIBIT JIM HENSONS THE DARK CRYSTAL: WORLD OF MYTH & MAGIC CLOSED IN NOVEMBER AND WAS FOLLOWED BY MASTERPIECE OF PUPPETRY: DARK CRYSTAL: AGE OF RESISTANCE, A NEW SPECIAL EXHIBIT EXPLORING HOW THE JIM HENSON COMPANY CONTINUED THE NAMESAKES LEGACY OF REVOLUTIONIZING THE ART OF PUPPETRY FOR THE 2019 NETFLIX SERIES.
PERFORMANCES: WHILE COVID INITIALLY INHIBITED IN-PERSON THEATRICAL PROGRAMMING, THE CENTERS FAMILY SERIES STILL FOUND WAYS TO SHARE THE MAGIC OF LIVE PUPPETRY PERFORMANCES WITH OVER 6,500 AUDIENCE MEMBERS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. THE DIGITAL SUMMER SERIES STREAMED 59 LIVE SOLO PERFORMANCES DIRECTLY INTO THE HOMES OF OVER 1,200 PEOPLE, AND POP-UP PERFORMANCES ENGAGED MUSEUM PATRONS IN THE CENTERS ATRIUM IN THE FALL. LIMITING CAPACITY AND RIGOROUS CLEANING ENABLED THE CENTER TO OPEN ITS MAINSTAGE THEATER FOR IN-PERSON, FULLY-STAGED PERFORMANCES IN NOVEMBER, AND AFTER A FEW DARK MONTHS IN EARLY 2021, THE CENTER WELCOMED AUDIENCES INTO ITS DOWNSTAIRS THEATER THROUGHOUT THE SPRING.
EDUCATION: TO FACILITATE THE CREATIVE EXPLORATION OF PUPPETRY IN THE ERA OF COVID, EDUCATION STAFF ADAPTED ON-SITE & OUTREACH PROGRAMMING TO BE OFFERED VIRTUALLY, PROVIDING LEARNERS OF ALL AGES WITH A SAFE BLEND OF VIRTUAL AND IN-PERSON PROGRAMMING THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.
