THIS MAJOR IOWA EVENT BROUGHT OVER 20,000 BICYCLISTS AND THEIR FAMILIES TO LANSING AS THE END TOWN OF A SEVEN DAY BIKE RIDE ACROSS IOWA. THROUGH THE EFFORTS OF OVER 140 VOLUNTEERS AND 15 COMMITTEES, APPROXIMATELY $113,000 WAS RAISED AND DISTRIBUTED TO LOCAL SCHOOLS, CITY GOVERNMENT, VARIOUS OTHER NON-PROFITS AND CHURCHES FOR USE IN COMMUNITY BASED PROJECTS.
MAIN STREET LANSING OPERATES AS AN ADVOCATE AND SUPPORTER OF DOWNTOWN LANSING BUSINESSES AND BETTERMENT OF THE DOWNTOWN AREA IN GENERAL THROUGH THE IOWA MAIN STREET PROGRAM. A COMMUNITY FARMERS MARKET HELD TWO TIMES A MONTH FROM MAY THROUGH OCTOBER. VENDORS SELL TYPICAL FARMERS MARKET WARES. LANSING WOMEN IN BUSINESS ADVOCATES FOR AND FACILITATES RESOURCES FOR WOMEN OWNED BUSINESSES IN THE CITY OF LANSING, IOWA. FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN TO PAY FOR LIGHTING AND INSTALLATION OF COMMUNITY-IDENTIFYING LIGHTS TO THE NEW CONSTRUCTION OF THE BLACKHAWK BRIDGE. REVISIONING AND RENOVATION OF COMMUNITY PLAZA OWNED BY MAIN STREET LANSING LOCATED ON MAIN STREET. SPACE IS USED FOR COMMUNITY EVENTS SUCH AS CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING, SPECIAL MUSIC, AND A PICNIC AREA.
DOWNTOWN DOLLARS PROGRAM KEEPS DOLLARS LOCAL AND CAN BE USED AT ANY PARTICIPATING LANSING BUSINESS, WHICH INCLUDE OVER 20 LOCAL BUSINESSES. OVER THE FISCAL YEAR, THERE WAS $3,340 DOWNTOWN DOLLARS PURCHASED FOR USE AT LOCAL BUSINESSES.
