THE HARTFORD ARTISANS WEAVING CENTER ENHANCES LIVES THROUGH THE CRAFT OF HAND-WEAVING.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
THE WEAVING CENTER ENRICHES LIVES THROUGH HAND-WEAVING. OUR ARTISAN WEAVERS, WHO ARE BLIND, LOW-VISION OR SENIOR IN AGE, LEARN AND MASTER THE ANCIENT ART OF WEAVING. OUR PROGRAM IS UNIQUE IN THE STATE AND, TO OUR KNOWLEDGE, IN THE NATION. NO OTHER PROGRAM CONSISTENTLY USES HAND-WEAVING TO ADDRESS THE SOCIAL AND OCCUPATIONAL NEEDS OF THE BLIND AND SENIORS. IN GENERAL, THERE ARE LIMITED CREATIVE AND INCOME-PRODUCING OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE TO THIS AUDIENCE. SENIOR CENTERS MIGHT PROVIDE ONE-OFF PROGRAMMING IN WEAVING AND OTHER ARTS, BUT OUR GATHERING PLACE WITH DAILY INSTRUCTION AND SOCIALIZATION IS DISTINCT AND TREASURED BY OUR COMMUNITY.
YEAR-ROUND, WE HOST WEAVING CLASSES FOR PEOPLE OF ALL AGES AND ABILITIES. OUR SUMMER CHILDREN'S CLASS BUSTLES WITH NEW IDEAS AND BRIGHT COLORS. OUR ADULT CLASSES ARE A FUN, REWARDING CHALLENGE FOR ANYONE NEW TO WEAVING, AND THOSE LOOKING TO HONE THEIR EXPERTISE. WE WORK TO MAKE SURE OUR CLASS AND WORKSHOP PROGRAM HAS SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE.
THE VISION OF THE HARTFORD ARTISANS WEAVING CENTER IS TO BE WIDELY-KNOWN AS A BUSTLING AND THRIVING COMMUNITY HUB. IN THAT REGARD, WEAVERS FROM THE AREA WILL VISIT THE CENTER TO PURCHASE WEAVING EQUIPMENT AND FIBER.
