FOUNDED IN 1970, THE GUILD SCHOOL IS A 365-DAY COMMUNITY-BASED, MASSACHUSETTS DEPARTMENT OF ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY EDUCATION CHAPTER 766-APPROVED PRIVATE SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS BETWEEN THE AGES OF 6 AND 22 WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES, AUTISM AND OTHER DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES. THE PHILOSOPHY OF THE GUILD SCHOOL IS BASED ON THE NEED FOR ALL STUDENTS TO ACQUIRE THE SKILLS AND BEHAVIORS NECESSARY TO LIVE AND WORK AS INDEPENDENTLY AS POSSIBLE IN THE COMMUNITY. THE MAIN GOAL OF THE PROGRAM IS COMMUNITY REFERENCED -- STUDENTS ARE TAUGHT TO FUNCTION IN LESS RESTRICTIVE SETTINGS AND PROVIDED WITH OPPORTUNITIES TO DEMONSTRATE NEWLY ACQUIRED SKILLS AND BEHAVIORS IN THESE COMMUNITY SETTINGS.
THE GUILD HAS ADULT RESIDENTIAL PROGRAMS LOCATED IN COMMUNITIES NORTH AND WEST OF BOSTON THAT SERVE INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE REACHED THEIR 22ND BIRTHDAY, FIT THE PROFILE OF WHOM WE SERVE, AND ARE ELIGIBLE FOR ADULT RESIDENTIAL SERVICES THROUGH THE MASSACHUSETTS DEPARTMENT OF DEVELOPMENTAL SERVICES.
