THE AIWA WORKED DILIGENTLY TO ENCOURAGE THE CONTINUATION AND FURTHER DEVELOPMENT OF WATERBORNE COMMERCE AND RECREATION IN THE INTRACOASTAL WATERWAYS OF VIRGINIA, GEORGIA, FLORIDA, NORTH CAROLINA AND SOUTH CAROLINA THROUGH THE PROMOTION OF ADEQUATE DREDGING, SAFE NAVIGATION, AND MAINTENANCE THROUGH EDUCATIONAL MEETINGS AND LOBBYING OF FEDERAL OFFICIALS. WE WORKED TO ENSURE THE U.S. AMRY CORPS OF ENGINEERS MAINTAINS THE WATERWAY AT A 12-FOOT DEPTH AT LOW TIDE AS AUTHORIZED BY CONGRESS BY HOLDING MEETINGS WITH CORPS OF ENGINEERS REPRESENTATIVES AT THE DISTRICT, DIVISION AND HEADQUARTERS LEVELS, IN ADDITION TO WORKING WITH LOCAL, STATE AND REGIONAL STAKEHOLDERS. THE AIWA WORKED TO EDUCATE THE NATION AND THE REGION ABOUT THE HISTORICAL AND ECONOMIC VALUE OF THE WATERWAY THROUGH ITS QUARTERLY NEWSLETTER AND ANNUAL MEETING.
